In this position...
The Cyber Calibration Engineering team is looking for a highly qualified and motivated engineer to develop vehicle propulsion system physical models for propulsion control system performance characterizations, verification and validation use cases across electric, hybrid electric and conventional vehicles. The Cyber Calibration Engineering team is part of Vehicle Propulsion System Engineering (VPSE) organization that characterizes and validates the propulsion control system calibration to deliver customer attributes and regulatory requirements. The candidate will be responsible for developing cutting-edge analytical solutions for SIL (Software in the Loop) and HIL (Hardware in the Loop) environments to solve complex electrified propulsion systems challenges and optimize customer experience of Ford Motor Company's electrified vehicles. The application of SIL / HIL based propulsion system calibration processes to our calibration development and validation work is new and developing and presents an exciting opportunity for new capability and process development. This position is in the VPSE organization, and Cyber Calibration Engineering Team, where you will work alongside team members developing SIL and HIL environment capability for calibration. The Cyber Calibration Engineering Team is committed to envisioning and creating methods, tools, and processes that increase our calibration development and validation efficiency and quality.
What you'll do...
+ Develop and apply physical system models across mechanical, electrical, and thermal domains to support electrified vehicle propulsion system calibration use cases in SIL and HIL environments.
+ Use optimization methods to tune subsystem models to match expected behaviors.
+ Envision and create methods, tools, and processes to improve model development and deployment process robustness.
+ Perform thorough unit testing of the system/subsystem models to ensure accuracy and robustness of the models.
+ Develop tools and methods to automate model development processes for improved efficiency.
+ Use version control systems (Github) to maintain model traceability and perform documentation of models, methods and processes.
+ Collaborate with SIL and HIL integration engineers to ensure models satisfy interface and use-case requirements for vehicle level SIL/HIL models.
+ Collaborate with D&R engineers to understand design specs and obtain required model parameterization data.
+ Collaborate with vehicle test engineers to develop instrumentation plan and obtain necessary data for model development and validation.
+ Partner with research engineers to transfer new technology models to product development.
+ Create documentation and present work to technical forums.
You'll have...
BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
2+ years of academic/professional experience in propulsion systems development with an understanding of the calibration process.
2+ years of academic/professional experience developing and testing propulsion system analytical models.
Even better, you may have...
MS/PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
5+ years of propulsion systems development experience with an understanding of the calibration process.
5+ years of experience developing and testing propulsion system analytical models.
Knowledge of electrified and ICE propulsion systems/components, and their operation and interactions within the system.
Experience with powertrain and cabin thermal management system simulation.
Experience with data driven reduced order model development using artificial neutral networks.
Experience with 1D system simulation tools (Dymola, Simulink, GT Suite, Amesim, Flomaster etc.).
Experience with programming and automation (MATLAB scripts, Python etc.).
Familiarity with version control systems like Github.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
