Job Summary
Chartwells at Avondale Schools—located in Auburn Hills, MI and recognized as the Account of the Year—is seeking a dynamic and professional Director of Dining Services to lead our food service operations across 8 schools, serving 3,300 students with excellence and innovation. We’re looking for a leader with catering and event experience, strong financial foresight (our client relies heavily on accurate forecasting and P&L oversight), and a culinary background to encourage creative, student-friendly menus. A polished, professional presence is essential to maintain strong client relationships and lead with confidence.
In this role, you’ll coordinate a dedicated Chartwells team of 30+ staff, including an Assistant Director, Administrative Assistant, and Hourly Chef. You’ll be responsible for driving student participation, ensuring compliance with NSLP guidelines, and encouraging a positive, collaborative culture. Key Responsibilities:
• Lead, mentor, and inspire our team of up to 30 frontline associates 30+ including an Assistant Director, Admin Asst & Chef.
• Drive critical initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction and increase profitability.
• Recruit, train, and develop top talent within the organization.
• Oversees the annual budget and control costs.
• Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Build strong relationships with clients, customers, and associates.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of a dining service operation.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of an Associate's degree in Food Services/Management/Hospitality/Culinary/Nutrition necessary or equivalent experience preferred.**
• Three plus years of foodservice management experience, prefers K12.
• Knowledge of high-volume food production is preferred.
• Previous P&L accountability or contract-managed services experience.
• Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer skills.
