    Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) is seeking an individual to join our HIMS (Health Information Management Services) Forensics Team for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as a Release of Information Specialist! This position will respond to requests for release of patient information from the medical record ensuring that all data privacy rules, and state and federal statutes are met. This position will assist in coordinating the completion of required documentation to meet statutory requirements as defined in the Minnesota Commitment Act and according to compliance guidelines, ensuring timely completion, and distribution of information.

    Primary responsibilities:

    + Provide leadership, education, and guidance to DCT staff on record deficiencies, processes and procedures, state, and federal laws, regulatory, and licensing requirements.

    + Respond to request for release of patient information from the medical record so that timely authorized releases are made, and privacy of patient information is protected.

    + Assist in HIMS department tasks including providing backup and completing projects as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with release of information.

    + Experience translating, evaluating, and presenting data in a clear and concise manner.

    + Experience working with various software including EHR and MS Office.

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate and present data to other professionals, including physicians, in a clear concise manner.

    + Knowledge and experience with quality improvement or patient safety.

    + Ability to evaluate and present data to other professionals, including physicians, in a clear concise manner.
