In the 2023 legislative session, the Governor’s Office, Minnesota legislature, and leaders for children and families worked in partnership to pass legislation establishing the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) to create a sustainable, public face for children’s issues in state government. This new cabinet-level agency brings together programs centered on children and families, including childcare and early learning, child support, child safety and permanency, economic support and food assistance, and youth opportunity. Formerly a part of the Department of Human Services, the new Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) Agency became effective on July 1, 2024.

As a CSP Communications Coordinator, you will provide expertise in strategy, planning, and implementation of communications for the Child Safety and Permanency administration, ensuring that both internal and external stakeholders are well-informed. It plays a crucial role in advancing equity, raising public awareness, and providing critical information about programs and services. Responsibilities include developing and coordinating communications strategies and activities, adhering to agency standards and laws, offering consultation on best practices, leading work groups for new initiatives, and supporting the DCYF Communications Teams by conducting research and developing key messages with an equity focus.
Responsibilities include:
+ Develop, implement, and coordinate strategic Child Safety and Permanency communication plans and campaigns. Identifying target audiences, key messages, and communication strategy so that communication is consistent, effective, and adheres to communications standards and related laws and rules.
+ Lead content development for CSP communications for various audiences through various channels to ensure messaging in clear and aligns with agency goals.
+ Collaborate with DCYF teams to develop and implement department-wide communication strategy.
+ Develop, implement, and evaluate governance structures and content management practices to ensure communications are accurate, timely and reliable in reaching intended audiences.
+ Serve as a member of the Child Safety and Permanency (CSP) Operations team and participate in official team functions.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience developing written content for a business, nonprofit or government agency demonstrating the following:
+ Experience developing and implementing communications plans.
+ Planning, composing, and editing content for the web and other platforms including social media, digital newsletters, etc.
+ Expertise in planning, developing, and implementing effective communication strategies.
+ Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
+ Ability to conceive, develop and deliver a desired message effectively and concisely.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects effectively within deadlines.
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communication studies, pubic affairs or media may substitute for 1 year of experience OR a Master’s degree in public relations, journalism, communication studies, pubic affairs or media may substitute for 2 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience working in communications for large organizations.
+ Working knowledge of state and federal laws related to content accessibility and equal access to information.
+ Ability to take and edit photos and video.
+ Experience using the GovDelivery email marketing platform.
+ Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications or related degree.
+ Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
