Overview:
Interns complete a part time internship centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed. Summer Interns participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and play an important role in building the future of the Bank. As an Intern, you will gain exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers.
The Commercial Credit Underwriting and Portfolio Management departments provides an independent credit quality assessment of the Bank's commercial clients. These assessments range from initial analyses of new relationships to the Bank to material modifications or restructurings of long-term relationships. The department also is responsible for ensuring the accurate completion of the Bank's risk rating scorecards and financial statement spreads. The work completed in this capacity is used to make new loan decisions.
This position interacts with Commercial Banking Relationship Managers (“RM’s) and credit officers as well as other internal personnel. You will gain exposure by attending client/prospect calls with RM’s to gain a thorough understanding of the client/prospect and their business. As an intern in the office, you will also partner with department personnel to assist on projects and gain an introduction to the processes and systems associated with the lifecycle of a loan.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.
+ Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable.
+ Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
+ Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
+ Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
+ Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:
+ Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
+ Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Education and Experience Preferred:
• Working towards a degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics or related field
• Proficiency in pertinent software, particularly spreadsheet software
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical ability

The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above encompasses all geographic locations.
