Summary You will serve as an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist in the Occupational Safety and Health Division (Code 106.1) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. Salary Range: GS-9 = $63,800 - $82,938 GS-11 = $77,192 - $100,344 Responsibilities You will act as a representative for the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). You will be responsible for the surveillance of industrial work performed in the shipyard by employees, contractors, or other support agencies. You will coordinate and perform inspections or audits to ensure that work can be safely executed in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards and regulations. You will conduct investigations in accordance with Navy mishap investigation and reporting procedures. You will direct immediate corrective action in an emergency situation to control personnel exposure to a hazard, until relieved by senior personnel. You will identify the need for, and assist in, the procurement and maintenance of equipment needed to support Occupational Safety and Health monitoring of work sites. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For the GS-11 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector managing a Safety and Occupational Health program; conducting inspections, evaluating safety procedures, or developing recommendations to eliminate unsafe work practices/conditions, property damage or productivity losses. For the GS-09 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting with Occupational Safety and Health projects; conducting inspections, evaluating safety procedures, or developing recommendations to eliminate unsafe work practices, property damage and productivity losses. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: GS-11: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. See Required Documents for additional information. Additional Information This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management.
