Job Summary
The Cashier is responsible for performing basic cashier duties and providing general customer service at the college.
Essential Functions
• Responsible for receiving, controlling, and recording cash, check and credit card receipts for the Business Office and entering into Banner
• Prepares bank deposits
• Maintains and distributes petty cash funds
• Close and balance sessions weekly

• Provide students information regarding balances owed or collections information as well as payment plan options (Nelnet)
(15%)
• Participates in the Strategic Planning process for the college/department and helps implement the plan
(5%)
• Serves as the first point of contact in the office for assigned days/times by sitting at the front desk to assist walk-ins and provide general customer service and basic admissions information. Does not enter any admission information.

• Other duties as assigned.

Competencies
• Cash handling/previous cashier experience
• Proficiency in using Banner, BDM or other scanning software
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Effective Communication, verbal and written and ability to provide effective guidance and communication both face to face and virtually using teleconferencing or communication platforms.
• Understanding of FERPA restrictions and proper guidance and assistance within compliance of privacy acts and restrictions
• Skill in managing multiple priorities
• Ability to work well individually as well as in a team environment
Minimum Qualification
• High school diploma or GED *and* six months work-related experience
Preferred Qualifications
• One-year experience performing clerical tasks which provided some training in accounting clerical areas
• Completion of a Certificate or Diploma in Accounting
• Cashier or accounting experience
• Experience in a post-secondary environment
• Banner experience a plus
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and technologies.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, mainly located on a specific campus. Days and hours of work are typically set and specific and generally established between Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 6:30 pm and Friday, 8 am until 12 pm (for 40 hours max). This position may occasionally require weekend work.
Travel
Travel to other campus locations is occasionally required, as needed. Overnight travel is not required except in rare instances of external professional development conferences, travel, or meetings
