Job Summary:

Under the direction of the school leader, the general education teacher plans, organizes, and implements an appropriate instructional program and learning environment for students in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

+ Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

+ Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.

+ Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.

+ Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.

+ Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

+ Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.

+ Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.

+ Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.

+ Provide appropriate feedback on work.

+ Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.

+ Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.

+ Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.

+ Prepare required reports on students and activities.

+ Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.

+ Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

+ Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

+ Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.

+ Assign and grade work, homework, tests and assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:

+ Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

+ Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

+ Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.

+ Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.

+ Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.

+ Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state.

+ Complet ion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university and be eligible to obtain a Georgia Clear and Renewable Teacher Certificate as required by statute

+ OR

+ Hold a Provisional Georgia Educator’s Certificate AND eligible to obtain a Georgia Clear and Renewable Teacher Certificate as required by statute.

+ Must hold a Georgia State certification in teaching in appropriate subject area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess the following: SRT- 4 or higher (4-8) or (6-12) in Social Studies.

+ Education: B.A./B.S. degree in teaching in appropriate subject area.

+ Experience: One to three years of teaching experience is preferred

+ Experience teaching in alternative school setting-Preferred

+ Note: Prior teaching experience in a youth facility or with at risk youth is a plus but not required.

+ Working Conditions: Normal classroom environment in a secure environment

+ Physical Demands: Routine physical activities associated with normal classroom environment
