R&D Technician
Job Description
The R&D Technician plays a crucial role in assisting the development of new and improved products and packages. The individual is responsible for providing technical support and project work in laboratory, pilot plant, and plant environments. The technician will support, implement, and maintain food safety practices while participating in various project categories such as flavor development, pilot plant studies, front-end formulation/product development work, and new product start-ups. The position involves evaluating raw material changes, nutritional content, food safety/claims, cost, and production optimizations.
Responsibilities
+ Participate in developing, scaling up, and producing new/improved products and packages.
+ Operate equipment accurately and comply with food safety and manufacturing policies.
+ Compile, analyze, and summarize data into reports.
+ Safely obtain and handle samples from production locations for analysis, ensuring compliance with GMPs.
+ Assist in plant and pilot plant tests, packaging projects, and production trials, including sample preparation and participation in experiments.
+ Obtain samples and technical information, including product/package measurements, processing data, and quality measures.
+ Prepare ingredients, execute tests, record data points, and document food safety data.
+ Conduct routine and non-routine evaluations of products.
+ Serve as a technical resource for other departments, including Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Sales and Marketing.
+ Maintain complete records of procedures, observations, and results.
+ Assist in equipment sterilization and cleaning.
+ Perform environmental swabbing.
+ Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in food science and laboratory techniques.
+ Experience in food product development and formulation.
+ Knowledge of food safety practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ BA/BS in Food Science or a related field.
+ 1+ years of experience in food product development or formulation, which can be from academic or industry projects.
+ Exposure to pilot plant or food plant environments.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
