• Machine Learning Research Scientist

    Vanguard (Malvern, PA)


    We are looking for someone who can work with our senior lab members to build out project scopes and lead the R&D execution alongside data scientists, ML Engineers, analysts, PMs, traders, and more. You will be part of a high-profile Al R&D team enabling creative and impactful solutions across Quant Projects, Fixed Income, Risk Management, Investment Strategy, Finance, and more.

    Ideal Skill set:

    + Significant experience in modelling research regarding ML

    + Research scoping and experimental design experience necessary

    + Familiarity with Investment Management practices, specifically with regard to Fixed Income is preferred

    + Familiarity with all other Investment Management practices, data, and tasks is preferred

    + Experience developing and executing statistical techniques to carefully test hypotheses

    + Experience building custom deep learning architectures to address specific problem statements

    + Comfortable and autonomous working with ML Engineers to bring models into production

    + Proficient with python and associated ML frameworks/libraries

    + Familiarity with research code management and best practices

    + Able to refine clean, maintainable, production-ready code, and interact with code created by other researchers

    + Participation or completion of the CFA or related financial knowledge is valuable

    + Knowledge of or experience with mathematical optimization techniques such as Markowitz, mixed-integer, etc. is preferred

    Academic Background:

    + Undergraduate degree in related STEM field(s) with Modeling work required

    + Graduate Degree or equivalent industrial experience in applied modeling workflows required.

    + Strong coursework in mathematics, information theory, and other topics related to theoretical reasoning in ML is necessary

    + Strong written and oral communication skills
