    Overview

     

    The Health Center Director/Camp Nurse (RN) is responsible to assess and treat (as needed) any injuries or illnesses

     

    experienced by campers and staff, while also maintaining any regular medical needs such as daily medications.

     

    They will also promote health and safety across all Camp programs, educating staff and campers as needed

    Responsibilities

    + Contact the camp’s consulting physician and local pharmacy to obtain certification of their services for the summer period.

    + Demonstrate and educate staff on the proper usage of essential equipment (AED, EpiPen, inhaler, etc.) and review procedures and policies.

    + Present the objectives of health care and safety for all campers to staff during orientation.

    + Receive and review signed (by a physician) physical examination reports & immunization records for each camper before arrival, sharing any pertinent information with staff.

    + Examine campers and their medications as they arrive, informing Camp Directors of any concerns that may arise and using good judgement to indicate if any camper should not be allowed to attend camp.

    + Maintain a daily log recording details for any staff or camper visit to the infirmary.

    + Oversee the daily disbursement of all camper/staff medications.

    + Oversee the daily care, supervision and treatment of campers and staff.

    + Oversee the daily cleaning of all health center areas, working to uphold a sterile and secure environment.

    + Decide with the Camp Directors if a camper or staff member should leave camp for any medical reason.

    + Mandate and maintain adherence to the safety, health and privacy standards set by the Camp Directors in accordance with Chesterfield Resources, American Camp Association, Maine Department of Health, HIPPA, and DHHS.

    + Maintain close communication with all staff members while maintaining confidentiality of any information regarding a camper or staff member, only discussing pertinent information with authorized personnel.

    + Enforce rules and regulations which promote health and safety standards of campers and staff while emphasizing positive health, nutritional, personal hygiene, sanitation, exercise, and mental, emotional health.

    + Assume responsibility for any insurance forms or prescription slips to be submitted to Camp Director’s office after a hospital or doctor’s visit.

    + Communicate with parents/legal guardians to explain any situations prior to a doctor’s or hospital visit (except in the cases of emergency) as well as any other pertinent information.

    + Respect each staff/camper as an individual, not allowing personal feelings to interfere with treatment.

    + Participate in regular evaluations with the Camp Directors.

    + Attend and participate in all leadership and staff meetings.

    + Promote observance of the spiritual emphasis of the camp program and the moral and ethical codes of Camp Sebago.

    + Provide direction and oversight of the Health Center Assistant, whilst working collaboratively to fulfil the duties involved in Camper/Staff Health Care.

    Qualifications

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) with the ability to create reports, spreadsheets, and presentations.

    + Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or EMT with current licensure/certification in the State of Maine or compatible state.

    + Must have a valid driver’s license

    + Completion of KeepSAfe abuse risk management training as required by the KeepSAfe policy and assigned by the supervisor.
