    *This role will be enrolled in the Public Works Training Program with Ramsey County covering the costs to complete the program.

     

    This is an entry level position. The current vacancies are in the Public Works Department. The eligibility list created by these vacancies may be used to hire other vacancies in the department or County.

     

    Assists with engineering and land surveying assignments in the office and in the field including construction inspection, traffic engineering, land surveying, project design and project management; and to perform related duties as assigned. (This is the entry-level classification in the Engineering/Surveying Technician series. The duties performed in this classification enable employees that meet experience requirements to advance to Engineering/Surveying Technician 2 through demonstration of the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the completion of required training/education.)

    Examples of Work Performed

     

    + Assist in setting up work zone traffic control systems for various engineering and land surveying projects to ensure the safety of personnel, the public and equipment.

    + Assist in testing, maintaining and cleaning survey equipment. Inventories and loads work truck with supplies, materials and equipment necessary to perform survey field work.

    + Index, file and maintains various construction and land survey records.

    + Assist in land survey and engineering survey fieldwork.

    + Using AutoCAD Civil 3D, assists in design, drafting and mapping which includes: completing vertical and horizontal alignments of roads with allowances for driveways and other features, setting curb elevation, and adjusting storm sewer location to avoid conflicts with utilities; develop pre-design layouts; prepare Certificates of Survey, Highway Right of Way Plats, description exhibits, and illustrative graphics.

    + Assist in engineering and land surveying computations and analysis.

    + Assist with inspection of construction projects to ensure compliance with state and project specifications. Assist in testing aggregate, bituminous and concrete materials for quality control.

    + Assist in researching engineering, land surveying and property records.

    + Assist in examining proposed subdivision plats, Common Interest Community plats and Registered Land Surveys for mathematical accuracy and general compliance with state statutes, professional standards, county ordinances and procedures.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: High school graduation or equivalent. Completion of a two-year vocational/technical program in drafting and engineering/survey technology OR *enrolled in the Public Works Training Program/comparable specialized training.

     

    *This role will be enrolled in the Public Works Training Program with Ramsey County covering the costs to complete the program.

     

    Experience: None.

     

    Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.

    Certification/Licensure: A valid driver's license

    *Note: Engineering/Construction/Survey Technician 1’s enrolling in the Public Works Training Program must do so in the first 30 days of employment and continue to meet the requirements of the program until completion.

    Eligible List : The names of all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and submit a properly completed application, shall be placed on the Routine Service eligible list for an employment opportunity as an Engineer/Land Survey Technician 1 . Please answer all of the supplemental questions and attach the required documents. Failure to complete the application will affect your consideration for an interview. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy . Candidates will remain on the list for 90 days or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been referred and their status. The department may choose to interview any candidate on this eligible list.

     

    Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process . Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.

     

    Criminal Background Checks: All employment offers are conditioned upon the applicant passing a criminal background check. Convictions are not an automatic bar to employment.     E-Verify Participation: Ramsey County participates in the federal E-Verify program. This means that Ramsey County will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. If the Government cannot confirm that you are authorized to work, Ramsey County is required to give you written instructions and an opportunity to contact DHS and/or the SSA before taking adverse action against you, including terminating your employment.
