Job Description:

Miller Electric Mfg., LLC, a subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works, is a global leader in delivering innovative welding solutions. **The Components division is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the design, development, and optimization of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs).** This role is critical in driving technical excellence and aligning engineering initiatives with business strategy.

You will provide leadership, mentorship, and strategic oversight to a team of engineers, ensuring high-quality deliverables that support new product development, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturing efficiency. The Engineering Manager role is an on-site, heavily collaborative role, with occasional travel to meet with suppliers, vendors, and customers.

PCBA Design

+ Oversee all stages of PCBA development - from concept and prototyping to design validation and production.

+ Establish and deploy industry best methodologies for PCBA design, testing, and manufacturing that align with long-term quality, scalability, and cost-efficiency goals.

+ Ensure PCBA designs meet quality, reliability, regulatory, and industry standards (IPC-2221, IPC-A-600).

+ Manage components selection and PCBA development to meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements.

Strategic Execution

+ Partner with division leadership to ensure initiatives are aligned with division strategic intent.

+ Align engineering goals with Annual Plan (AP) and Long-Range Plan (LRP) strategies.

+ Translate internal customer needs and technical requirements into product roadmaps and development plans.

+ Monitor project progress, manage budgets, and allocate engineering resources effectively.

+ Use data and metrics to drive decisions that support the financial health of the business.

Technology Leadership

+ Stay informed on emerging PCBA and related technologies, balancing innovation with business value and risk.

+ Lead continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives for PCBA manufacturing and design.

+ Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across all projects.

What you need to do to be successful in this role:

+ **Strong Communication:** Excellent written, verbal, and organizational communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

+ **Problem-Solving:** Demonstrating excellent technical and problem-solving abilities to address and resolve issues efficiently.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Electronics preferred); Master’s or MBA a plus.

+ 10+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.

+ 5+ years of hands-on experience with PCB design, development, and manufacturing.

+ Proficient in PCBA development and assembly processes through schematic/layout/DFM/DFT/prototyping

+ Willingness to travel up to 15% as needed.
