    Major/Essential Functions:

    To support CASM’s day-to-day operations, including but not limited to: managing laboratory operations; serving as Laboratory Safety Officer; assisting users in preparation of samples for analysis; providing experimental design expertise to facility users; training of new users in appropriate experimental design and instrument use; preparing samples, collecting and interpreting data; and, tracking facility usage.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's of Science (M.S.) degree in a related field

    + Two years related experience

    + Demonstrated record of effectiveness and activity as a laboratory-oriented researcher or technician in Life Sciences or a related field.

    + Experience in one or more of the following skills of work environments

    + Sample preparation for transmission electron microscopy

    + Preparation and quality control of ultrathin sections

    + Transmission electron microscopy

    + Flow cytometry

    + Cell sorting techniques and maintenance of high viability and sterility

    + Paraffin-embedding techniques, and the sectioning of paraffin- and cryo-preserved tissue

    + Tissue staining with fluorescent dyes and histological stains

    + The analysis and interpret results from optical microscopy, cell cytometry or transmission electron microscopy.

    + Demonstrated communication skills

    + Working safely in a Bio-Safety Level 2 environment

    + Laboratory and project-management

    + Communication of scientific and laboratory methods.

    + Life science related experimental design and troubleshooting.

    About the Department and/or College:

    The College of Arts & Sciences Microscopy (CASM) at Texas Tech University is an advanced microscopy facility that serves the education, research and medical communities of the Southern High and Rolling Plains. The facility houses 4 electron microscopes including a dual-beam FIB, a 4-laser Attune NxT flow cytometer, a 5-laser FACS Aria III sorter, 2 epifluorescent microscopes, a 5-laser FV3000 and a 4-laser spinning disc confocal microscopes, and sample preparation equipment. CASM serves ~175 individual users each year and supports projects across the biomedical and life-sciences, agricultural sciences including food safety, animal science and veterinary medicine, and plant and soil science, as well as researchers from the human sciences and bio-engineering, the natural sciences, and pharmacology.
