    ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BEHAVIOR

    ABOUT HFH SUMMER CAMPS:

    Since 1989, HFH Summer Camps has provided NYC children experiencing homelessness with a transformative summer camp experience. For more information about our summer camp program, please visit us at www.hfhcamps.org .

    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    HFH Summer Camps is seeking a compassionate and skilled Assistant Director of Behavior to support the social-emotional development and behavioral well-being of our campers and staff during the 2025 camp season. The camp season consists of 3 sessions starting on June 9th till August 8th. This role is integral in fostering a supportive and inclusive camp environment, ensuring that all individuals feel safe, valued, and understood.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Proactively monitor camper’s interactions, identify potential behavioral challenges, and implement strategies to address issues such as conflicts, homesickness, and non-compliance with camp expectations.

    + Serve as the primary resource for unit leaders facing behavioral challenges, offering advice, mediation, and intervention when necessary.

    + Provide occasional evaluations and feedback to unit leaders to enhance their effectiveness.

    + Help execute unit activities – including all-camp and rainy-day activities.

    + Actively engage in camp activities, modeling appropriate behavior and interactions for both campers and staff.

    + Lead by example to promote positive social-emotional development.

    + Contact parents or guardians when necessary to discuss behavioral incidents, ensuring that families are well informed and involved.

    + Maintain accurate records of behavioral incidents and interventions, ensuring thorough records for follow-up, tracking, and compliance.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Minimum age of 21 years old.

    + Mental Health/Education certifications preferred.

    + Two years of camping/childcare experience, preferably in a mental health support role.

    + One year of leadership experience.

    + Ability to pass physical and background checks.

    + Available to live on-site from June 9th to August 8th.

    + Valid Driver’s License preferred.
