    Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.

     

    Position Summary: This temporary position is in the Office of the Attorney General within the Consumer Protection Division in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The appointment for this position will be for an initial 6-month period and can be part-time (working at least 20 hours/week) or full-time. The appointment may be extended for 6-month intervals depending on bureau needs and the employee’s performance.

     

    This is an entry level investigative and analytical position to work on investigations in the Consumer Protection Division. The successful candidate needs to be an individual that is a self-starter and able to deliver projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision. This position largely accepts projects from Investigators and/or Assistant Attorneys General with defined parameters and specific timelines for delivery. Projects may include researching and culling information from many sources both internally and externally. Additionally, this position would compile, analyze, and deliver reports upon the outcome of that analysis to further investigations or litigation. Candidates will review complaints, speak with complainants and witnesses, review documents including complaints and financial statements, provide analysis of trends emerging in complaints and violations of FDUTPA. This position may also require the analysis of bank accounts, the flow of money, and may include the use of software such as CFIS to aid in the tracking of financial transactions. This position requires strong computer skills and the desire and ability to stay abreast of emerging technology. The successful candidate will be required to maintain detailed notes of actions taken while assisting in developing investigations at the direction of others, as well as memos, charts, graphs, and basic affidavits among other reporting documents. This position tracks consumer complaints, the types of complaints made, and the total loss alleged by complainants. Duties may also include identifying, validating, and providing documents necessary to provide restitution to consumers who have suffered a financial loss. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, and have strong time management and organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize assignments. The candidate should be able to work independently with minimal supervision and should demonstrate a strong desire to protect consumers and resolve consumer complaints.

     

    Pay: $17.00 hourly

    Qualifications:

    A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, accounting, business, finance, information systems, economics, paralegal studies, or a related field; OR an Associate’s degree (in same subjects) and two years of experience in law enforcement, civil investigations, fraud or white-collar investigations, or any financial-related investigations, examinations or analysis.

    Preference will be given to candidates who have:

    + Experience working as an investigative analyst or working in a role to provide support for investigations.

    + Experience working in a legal department, law office or in law enforcement

    + Degree in Criminal Justice, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline.

     

    The elements of the selection process may include an Excel skills assessment exercise.The skills exercises must be completed in one of the Attorney General's offices.

    The Work You Will Do:

    Duties may include daily contact with complainants and providing updates concerning the status of investigations. The candidate will be expected to perform research, document their process, and provide a written analysis of the information obtained. This position tracks consumer complaints, the types of complaints made, and the total loss alleged by complainants. Duties may also include identifying, validating, and providing/obtaining documents necessary to provide restitution to consumers who have suffered a financial loss.

    The desired candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

    + Proficient with Microsoft Excel – (data entry, tracking, sorting and filtering, pivot tables, etc.)

    + Ability to prepare professional memoranda of findings that may include charts, graphs, spreadsheets, or other means of representing the discovered facts.

    + Attention to detail.

    + Ability to organize files, records and/or other materials.

    + Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize assignments.

    + Work well within a team.

    + Locate, collect and record information from multiple resources such as complaints, the Internet, news media, social media, government and law enforcement sensitive forums.

    + Review and analyze financial documents including bank statements, cancelled checks, consumer receipts and corporate filings.

    + Liaise with private, regulatory, and law enforcement organizations.

    + Strong desire to protect consumers and resolve consumer complaints.

    + Ability to assist attorneys and the litigation team with trial preparations.

    + Ability to assist investigators and attorneys with special assignments, which may require extended hours and/or travel outside the worksite.
