    Job Details:

    Job Summary: The Respiratory Technician is responsible for setting up and running respiratory tests on patients to check for lung diseases or disorders. This position conducts various types of tests and collaborates with other medical staff to help them diagnose possible lung disease.

    Responsibilities:

    • Uses department supplies and equipment according to department standards.

    • Completes billing records within departmental standards.

    • Consults with physicians and health care team to recommend appropriate testing procedures.

    • Provides results that will assist the physician with the treatment of the patient’s respiratory disease/diagnosis. Identifies impending changes in patient’s condition and takes appropriate action.

    • Identifies departmental needs and takes appropriate and effective steps in resolving problems

    • Uses defined procedures and protocols effectively.

    • Utilizes information generated from both computerized and paper systems that support functions such as medical records and pulmonary databases.

    • Supports both hospital and outpatient clinic settings through periodic rotation of personnel.

    • Adheres to federal regulations regarding patient privacy (HIPAA).

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Experience: 1-3 years' experience as a Respiratory Therapy Technician preferred.

     

    Education: Associate in respiratory therapy from a college or university that the National Board of Respiratory Care, or NBRC, accredits preferred.

     

    Licenses / Certifications: Current NYS Respiratory Therapist Technician License required. Current AHA BLS certification. Current NYS license as Pulmonary Function Technician preferred.

     

    Other: The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
