    Job Description

    Reports to the NMS Site Manager/Director of Public Safety and provides support by assisting in the management of daily safety operations, including patrol coordination, emergency response, and incident reporting. Upholds campus safety policies while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Develops and delivers training programs for campus safety officers, focusing on emergency preparedness, conflict resolution, and first aid. Cultivates strong relationships within the campus community to enhance safety awareness and build trust. Contributes to the creation and execution of emergency response plans, collaborating with local law enforcement and emergency services as necessary. Oversees schedules, budgets, and reporting for campus safety operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

    Responsibilities

    + Assist the Director in administering the University Public Safety Department and in supervising the enforcement of the university, and departmental policies, rules and regulations pertaining to campus security, safety and health.

    + Provide the Director with accurate financial data relevant to the operation of the Department and assist in preparing budget recommendations.

    + Responsible for overseeing operational services including managing dispatch, the officer in charge, and the department administrative support.

    + Responsible for overseeing the processes and documentation required by the Clery Act Compliance.

    + Responsible for traffic safety management and coordinating changes in traffic flow due to events and construction, and the enforcement of traffic violations.

    + Manage the Incident Management reporting system to insure effective and consistent management of security incidents.

    + Coordinate the management of the department’s vehicle fleet and necessary repairs.

    + Responsible for the management of the key records system to include security, maintenance, distribution and record keeping.

    + Responsible for scheduling overtime details to assure adequate security presence at all times.

    + Act as backup Emergency Management and Fire Safety liaison.

    + Responsible for managing policy development and adherence, and coordinated response training for Active Threat/Active Shooter incidents.

    + Supervise campus patrol operations and personnel.

    + Assist the Director in designing, developing, and conducting informational and educational training programs related to law enforcement, crime prevention, and Security staff development and training for members of the Department and other appropriate College employees.

    + Coordinate all security alarm and CCTV (closed circuit television) systems with appropriate departments.

    + Assist with filling shifts when necessary.

    + Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.

    Qualifications

    + Associate’s degree or at least five years’ experience relating to safety/security, emergency preparedness, fire prevention, and/or occupational safety.

    + Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.

    + Ability to design and develop training programs.

    + Valid New York State Guard License.

    + Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to prepare and review accurate and concise written reports.

    + Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs,conferences and/or professional literature.

    + Demonstrated ability to perform under stress and intense pressure.

    + Effective oral and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy.

    + Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under vehicle insurance policy.

    Preferred Requirements

    + Bachelor’s degree in related field.

    + Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures that promote campus security.

    + Working knowledge of Clery Act, Title IX, and VAWA.

    + Demonstrated ability to implement a comprehensive safety/security and emergency response plan.

    + Extensive knowledge of hazard/risk analysis to apply federal and local regulations to address moderate to highly complex health/safety and security issues.

    + In-depth understanding of state and local government disaster recovery protocols.

     

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

     

    Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to both cold and hot weather conditions.

     

    Noise level: Moderate to Loud

     

    Description of environment: This is a public manufacturing plant environment.

     

    Must constantly be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch.

     

    Physical requirements: Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs.
