    Join Our Team as a Full-Time Flex Phlebotomist at UPMC Kane!

UPMC Kane is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Flex Phlebotomist to join our team! In this vital role, you'll be at the heart of patient care—collecting and processing laboratory samples that are crucial to diagnosing and treating our patients.

     

    This flexible position offers variable hours, typically between 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM or 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with the potential for extended shifts to support team coverage. You’ll also work every third weekend and rotating holidays, ensuring a balanced schedule while contributing to critical operations.

     

    As a Phlebotomist at UPMC Kane, you’ll do more than just collect samples—you’ll support our laboratory through computer, courier, and clerical tasks, working closely with our experienced Medical Technologists.     In this role, there will be the opportunity to-

    + Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.

    + Follow proper patient identification procedures to collect blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, or fingerstick; instruct patients on self-collection procedures when necessary.

    + Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment to prioritize tasks and support departmental needs.

    + Transport specimens from on- and off-site locations to the appropriate laboratory section, following all safety and handling protocols.

    + Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, safety, quality control, infection prevention, and personnel guidelines.

    + Perform clerical duties and utilize computer systems to accurately enter patient data, process test orders, and manage billing functions.

    + Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.

    + Notify technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents in a timely manner.

    Required:

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    Preferred:

    + Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program.

    + Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy.

    + Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
