    Job Description: Director of Curriculum and Instruction (Middle School)

     

    The Middle School Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) at REACH Academy Charter School will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the middle school's educational program, ensuring alignment with state and national standards, as well as best practices. The DCI will work closely with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to enhance instructional practices, improve scholar outcomes, and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation. The DCI is a key member of the school's leadership team, collaborating regularly to set and advance the school's strategic direction.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Instructional Leadership:

    + Serve as the day-to-day instructional leader, setting the academic vision in collaboration with the principal and leadership team.

    + Provide guidance and modeling for effective instructional practices, including intervention, differentiation, lesson planning, and data analysis.

    + Mentor and coach teachers, supporting their growth through regular classroom observations, constructive feedback, and professional development.

    + Lead the implementation of standards-based grading to ensure alignment between grades and mastery of learning targets.

    + Curriculum Development:

    + Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of a comprehensive middle school curriculum, ensuring alignment with REACH Academy's mission, state standards, and best practices.

    + Collaborate with teachers to create engaging, rigorous, and relevant learning experiences.

    + Develop the middle school master schedule in collaboration with the Elementary Director of Instruction to meet student needs.

    + Identify and develop academic support programs to address diverse learning needs.

    + Data-Driven Instruction:

    + Analyze academic data to inform instructional planning and decision-making.

    + Serve as the school's assessment coordinator, managing New York State Assessments and other local testing throughout the school year.

    + Use data to assess curriculum effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to improve student outcomes.

    + Professional Development and Teacher Support:

    + Plan and facilitate professional development sessions based on staff needs and instructional goals.

    + Actively participate in teacher recruitment, selection, and performance evaluations.

    + Collaborate with teachers to set annual professional goals and develop targeted growth plans.

    + Collaboration and Communication:

    + Work closely with the Guidance Counselor and other team members on graduation planning.

    + Communicate effectively with students, families, teachers, and community members.

    + Represent the school at meetings and conferences related to curriculum and instruction.

    + Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

    Salary:

    $70,000 - 80,000 based on experience for a 12 month position

    Qualifications:

    + Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Education, or a related field (required).

    + Minimum of five to seven years of teaching successful teaching experience required;

    + Urban Charter School Experience preferred;

    + Holds a valid New York State or out of state teaching certificate;

    + Previous administrative experience preferred;

    + Have at least 2 years previous leadership experience in an educational setting,preferably in a supervisory or instructional leadership role, with a proven track record of driving academic improvement and supporting teacher development required;

    + Has a valid SBL/SDL from New York State preferred;

    + Satisfactory NYS fingerprinting background check;

    + Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies;

    + Experience with teacher coaching, evaluation, and professional development.

    + Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills;

    + Ability to effectively use data to drive instructional decisions;

    + Proficiency with educational technology, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Excel, and student information systems, etc;

    + Commitment to continuous improvement and a growth mindset.
