    This position is responsible for the management and coordination of designated waived and non-waived point of care testing (POCT) at University of Utah Health. The incumbent works closely with physicians, directors, managers, clinical laboratory administration, nursing staff, and medical assistants to ensures high quality testing and regulatory compliance at all POCT locations. This position also supports laboratory services director and managers with communications, needs assessments, review and introduction of POCT procedures and/or alternative delivery of laboratory service, proficiency testing, root cause analyses and corrective action plans, inspections and quality assurance compliance documents.

    Responsibilities

    + Performs oversight of the point-of-care testing programs located in the OR, Interventional Radiology, EP (electrophysiology), and Cath labs as well as various other hospital locations and satellite lab areas.

    + Coordinates training and competency assessments for testing personnel on analytical instruments in the areas of oversight.

    + Performs monthly audits including write-ups and follow-up actions plans for the above-mentioned testing.

    + Performs and manages software upgrades for POCT instrumentation, including linearity and calibration verification.

    + Manages proficiency testing enrollment, reporting of results and root cause analyses for any errors.

    + Writes and revises policies and procedures per the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and/or CLIA regulations in coordination with medical director.

    + Enacts quality assurance and quality improvement per the annual quality plan.

    + Performs new and repaired analyzer verification studies, write-ups and reporting.

    + Performs troubleshooting and assurance the test systems are functioning appropriately.

    + Documents control administrator for these areas for lab related documents.

    + Analytics measurement ranges (AMR) verifications.

    + Interprets and enforce CAP checklists in coordination with the Medical Director.

    + Manages new device interfaces and/or middleware in conjunction with ITS.

    + Participates in annual CAP inspections.

    + Performs required CAP semiannual comparisons of all devices in all areas

    + Investigates and records quality of service issues reported by internal and external entities. Extracts relevant data from issues and incident reports. Reports data and results of investigations to appropriate individuals for quality purposes and retraining.

     

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

     

    + Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

    + Knowledge and understanding of point of care testing program management as well as clinical laboratory processes including quality assurance, proficiency testing, and CAP/CLIA regulatory agencies.

    + Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

    + The incumbent provides independent oversight and decision making for activities of a specified program. Program outcomes often impact the University as a whole.

    + Ability to act as a liaison between internal and external constituencies (e.g. ARUP) involved in program related activities. Problems/opportunities arising from these efforts will be addressed by the incumbent who will refer to their manager any issues outside of program policy and procedure guidelines.

    + The level of responsibility does not generally extend beyond the parameters of the program except in an advisory capacity.

    + Ability to have generalized oversight of more than one program.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications** **Required

    + Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, a related science field, or the equivalency.

    + One year of experience working with point of care testing coordination, or three years of relevant laboratory experience.

    Qualifications (Preferred)

    Preferred

     

    + Master's degree in healthcare of business administration or related science field. CLS or MLS/MT certification.

    + Three years of working with point of care testing.
