    The NYU Prison Education Program (PEP) is seeking an Associate Research Scholar to provide part-time hourly assistance in support of PEP, specifically to assist with our annual summer orientation series for incoming PEP students.

     

    The overarching goal of the PEP Associate Research Scholar position is to support the successful integration of incoming PEP students through a comprehensive summer orientation program. Specifically, the Associate Research Scholar will be responsible for workshop facilitation, event planning, communications, student-facing community building, and student-facing scholarship design and development. In addition to supporting program-level operations, the Associate Research Scholar will also be responsible for conducting individualized case management for students presenting with academic and basic needs and will work closely with individuals in a one-on-one capacity to ensure holistic, ongoing support regarding personal challenges that create barriers for academic success.

     

    The ideal candidate will have strong interest and training in psychological science, social science, community psychology or social intervention; high professionalism (dependability, detail orientation, responsibility); willingness to learn and work on a variety of tasks; interest in supporting student success and utilizing community-engaged strategies toward student engagement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, dedication to social equity, and clear organizational and project management skills are required.

     

    Position runs 15-20 weeks long

     

    Work commitment is approximately 20 hours per week, from Monday through Friday.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    + Workshop facilitation and event planning for the summer orientation series

    + Developing and maintaining communications with incoming PEP students

    + Creating and implementing student-facing community building activities

    + Conducting individualized case management for students with complex needs

    + Participating in creative projects as assigned

    + Working closely with individuals in a one-on-one capacity to provide holistic support

    + Working in collaboration with PEP staff across all aspects of the program

    Position Start & End Dates:

    05/27/25 - 08/31/2025

     

    Hourly Pay Rate: $35.00 USD

     

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $26-$35 per hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

     

    + Student pursuing a PhD, preferably in psychological science, social science, community psychology or social intervention, or a related field.

    + Prior experience with higher education / college in prison programs

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    + Excellent ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve

    + Punctuality and time management

    + Interest and commitment to collaborating with PEP students and staff

    + Proficiency in utilizing Google Suite and Microsoft Office software

    + Demonstrated initiative, and capability to manage priorities and multiple tasks

    + Possesses a professional and friendly demeanor

    + Openness to collaboration and feedback
