Job Description

WM is in search of an Assistant Department Manager who is ready for a challenge and embodies Shaw’s values of honesty, integrity, and passion. This position aligns with strategic, succession planning goals of the department.

Key elements of the role are assisting the department manager by leading the production team through engineering, technical, and safety assignments using manufacturing engineering practices and principles. The Assistant Department Manager will encourage and support the team, ensuring alignment to strategic goals and celebrating with the team when these goals are achieved. Another key aspect of this role is to assist the department by leading shipping/receiving and blending associates through day-to-day material management, customer fulfillment, and planning.

Responsibilities:

+ Utilize the Shaw Way as guidance for decision making.

+ Coordinate activities of Department in the absence of the Department Manager.

+ Maintain performance “Score Cards” for each shift and align team to facility goals.

+ Lead Shipping/Receiving and Blending associates to ensure expectations are met with regards to safety, quality, and daily shipment of fiber and other materials.

+ Manage day-to-day of Plant 63 Operations

+ Execute daily and weekly production schedule.

+ Lead reliability initiatives within the department to ensure all transport equipment related to material transport and convey is well maintained and operates reliably.

+ Ensure accuracy in measurement of silo, raw material inventories.

+ Maintain accuracy of inventory data to ensure accuracy in material tracking and usage reports.

+ Maintain accurate levels of raw material are maintained in silos and communicate plans to blending team in managing raw material, bulk shipments.

+ Work with training and HR to ensure suitable cross training for facility.

+ Assist supervisors in general problem solving to help remove obstacles on day-to-day performance.

+ Provide engineering support by troubleshooting problems in Extrusion and implement solutions.

+ Interface with other manufacturing departments to address and resolve engineering technical issues.

+ Use Lean/Six Sigma Tools for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

+ 4-year Engineering degree

+ Must have at least 1-2 years of experience in a related field or its equivalent

+ Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills

+ Six Sigma Green/Black Belt trained or willingness to complete training
