    OBJECTIVES / PURPOSE OF JOB

    To produce high-precision components used in the manufacturing of intraocular lenses (IOLs) by operating and maintaining manual and CNC machining equipment. This role supports the production of optical-grade parts and tooling with extremely tight tolerances, contributing directly to the quality and performance of vision correction implants. The Precision Machinist ensures compliance with stringent medical device industry standards and works closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to maintain product integrity and patient safety.

    KEY ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

    Technical Expertise & Leadership:

    + Mentor and develop a team of Manufacturing Setup Operators and Manufacturing Associates.

    + Train setup operators and manufacturing associates to ensure compliance and productivity standards are met.

    + Ensure production areas operate efficiently and meet daily, weekly, and monthly output goals.

    + Collaborate with other departments, such as quality, engineering, and planning to resolve production issues.

    + Support of new product development builds, special engineering production requests, and advancements in automation.

    + Notify maintenance to report equipment failures and follow through by creating Work Orders in the maintenance software system.

    + Submit IT Requests as needed to support production.

    + Oversight of Managing Daily Improvement (MDI) activities in the lathing and milling areas.

    Compliance and Quality Control:

    + Ensure all production activities comply with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and relevant medical device regulations.

    + Ensure compliance with good documentation practices.

    + Oversee adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.

    + Conduct non-conformance investigations with Quality and Engineering support.

    + Ensure setup operator & manufacturing associates’ training is current.

    + Conduct process audits, document results, and provide feedback to manufacturing supervision.

    Continuous Improvement:

    + Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency.

    + Work closely with engineering and quality teams to identify and implement process improvements.

    + Update departmental metrics as needed to support continuous improvement efforts.

    + Update production procedures as needed.

    Health & Safety:

    + Promote and enforce a culture of safety in the workplace.

    + Ensure compliance with safety regulations and internal health and safety policies.

    + Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments within the manufacturing area.

    Documentation and Reporting:

    + Prepare and submit regular production reports.

    + Ensure proper documentation of any changes to processes or equipment.

    + Maintain procedures related to the CNC lathing area.

    Resource Management:

    + Coordinate with warehouse, planning, and procurement teams to ensure the availability of raw materials and components.

    + Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with Maintenance and Engineering teams to ensure equipment availability.

    QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

    Education:

    • Associate degree in a related field or completion of a machinist apprenticeship or technical certification.

    Required Experience:

    All candidates must have:

    • 3–5+ years of experience in machining (manual and CNC), including 1–2+ years in a lead or trainer role.

    • Hands-on experience with medical-grade materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and high-performance plastics.

    • Proficient in using precision measurement equipment.

    • Familiar with CNC programming (e.g., G-code) and controls (Haas, Fanuc, DAC, etc.).

    • Understanding of regulatory requirements for medical device manufacturing.

    • Proven leadership and communication skills with a focus on developing team capabilities.

    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious.

     

    Shift: Rotating shift / 6:45pm to 6:45am

     

    Start Pay Range: $24.00

     

    This position may be available in the following location: Clearwater, FL.
