    Adjunct Faculty Open Rank - Accounting

    FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    Stella and Charles Guttman Community College at CUNY is seeking adjunct faculty to teach Accounting courses for the following semester sessions:

    + 2025 Fall Term - Session I: September 9 to December 19, 2025

    + 2025 Fall Term - Session II: January 5 to February 26, 2026

    + 2026 Spring Term - Session I: March 4 to June 16, 2026

     

    We are looking for candidates with availability to teach courses during the day, in the evenings, on weekends, and in multiple modalities including in-person and hybrid formats. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to use effective pedagogical and technology-based strategies that enable the success of all students.

     

    Adjunct faculty perform teaching and guidance duties related to the course descriptions below.

    Course Information:

    ACCT 121 (Credits: 3, Hours: 4): Principles of Accounting I. This course is the first in a two-part sequence that introduces financial accounting from a user’s perspective. It introduces financial statements prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles based on the US Financial Accounting Standards Board’s rules. Students will learn about the mechanics and meaning of different forms of accounting and accounting issues related to accruals and assets. They will also study the performance of major New York-based for-profit businesses and not-for-profit organizations as revealed in their financial statements.

     

    ACCT 223 (Credits: 3, Hours: 4): Principles of Accounting II. Building on Principles of Accounting I, it further develops issues related to accounting for assets and liabilities. Students learn the accounting meaning of equity and its significance to a business. They add to their knowledge of financial statements by learning how to analyze and interpret the information contained therein.

     

    ACCT 230 (Credits: 3, Hours: 4): Financial Accounting I. This course serves as an overview of the fundamental concepts and principles relating to the study of financial accounting. These include the theories behind and applications of financial reports, as well as the financial organization and operations of a business. Specific topics covered in Financial Accounting 1 include financial statement analysis, valuation procedures, short-term and long-term measurement, inventory cost, and the time value of money, and the application of these concepts in making business decisions.

     

    ACCT 240 (Credits: 3, Hours: 4): Financial Accounting II. This course is the second in the Financial Accounting sequence. It continues and builds on ACCT 230. The topics in ACCT 240 include an in-depth analysis of the measurement and reporting requirements of both the US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and International Financial Reporting Standards for the preparation of a complete set of financial statements {Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Stockholders' Equity, and Statement of Cash Flows). In addition, the course covers the impacts of accounting for income taxes, pensions, leases, stockholders' equity and accounting changes in financial statements, investment, earning per share as well as an analytical review of financial statements.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor:

    Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required is the ability to teach successfully.

    For Adjunct Lecturer:

    Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Adjunct Lecturer: Master’s degree in accounting.

    For all ranks:

    Experience teaching in higher education, preferably at community colleges. Demonstrated ability in most of the following:

     

    + Teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and educational backgrounds

    + Active, student-centered pedagogy and significant student mentoring experience

    + Use effective technology-based strategies that enable the success of all students, including, but not limited to, the use of Brightspace and Navigate360

    COMPENSATION

    + Adjunct Lecturer: $97.25 per hour

    + Adjunct Assistant Professor: $106.09 per hour

    + Adjunct Associate Professor: $114.93 per hour

    + Adjunct Professor: $119.35 per hour

     

    Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
