The Office is currently seeking a Financial Investigator in the Charities Division of the Office. Financial Investigators work closely with the Division Manager and Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) on investigations, legal actions, and other matters that ensure regulated entities use their assets to benefit the Minnesota public. The position involves supporting and conducting investigations to detect fraud, deception, waste, misuse, improper governance, and related issues. Financial Investigators support investigations and cases initiated by AAGs, as well as initiate their own audits or informal investigations of regulated entities where appropriate.
A successful candidate in this position will support the mission of the Office by:
+ Being part of an investigative team in collaboration with AAGs
+ Developing and implementing effective strategies for investigations
+ Reviewing and analyzing financial documents and data such as QuickBooks data, Excel reports, financial statements, IRS filings, bank statements, checks, and receipts for items of evidentiary value
+ Developing reports of financial data
+ Conducting research on accounting, financial, governance, and other topics and standards to inform analysis
+ Conducting, recording, taking notes on, and summarizing interviews
+ Under the direction and supervision of the Division Manager, initiating a wide range of informal investigations/audits of regulated entities
+ Assisting AAGs with assigned investigative and litigation tasks where appropriate, including preparing discovery items, court exhibits, and various types of evidence; and
+ Assisting the Division constituent support tasks, including addressing calls and correspondence from the public.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of in-office work and telework).
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s or associate degree in related field of study (directly related work experience may substitute for degree)
+ 3 or more years’ experience in civil or criminal investigations, compliance, fraud detection, nonprofit governance, accounting, finance, or closely related fields
+ Demonstrated skill in:
+ attention to detail, planning, organization, and time management to effectively handle multiple caseload assignments concurrently
+ oral and written communication
+ Demonstrated ability to:
+ plan, organize, and conduct investigations
+ organize, review, analyze, and summarize large amounts of information
+ compile and summarize data and prepare records or reports in a clear, logical, and objective manner that requires minimal editing
+ develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers and willingness to work as part of an inclusive team
+ use computer software systems with intermediate proficiency, including but not limited to Microsoft Office
To be considered at the LA6 level, candidates must have at least 6 years of directly related experience. To be considered at the LA7 level, candidates must have at least 12 years of directly related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience or skill in investigative techniques, methods, and procedures
+ Knowledge of or experience with:
+ reviewing and analyzing financial documents such as IRS filings and financial statements
+ accounting rules and procedures
+ Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, or other accounting software
Physical Requirements
+ Ability to move and transport such articles as files, laptop computer and resource materials weighing up to 20 pounds
