I. Position Summary:
The Respiratory Therapy Manager coordinates and directs the clinical and other shift activities necessary to provide quality patient care. Provides leadership to facilitate staff development and productive working relationships within the health care team.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Cardiopulmonary Director
B. Workers Supervised: Professional and non-professional personnel
on their shift.
C. Interrelationships: Works closely with patients, families, and
physicians. Frequent interaction with other hospital departments and administration.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by the Cardiopulmonary Director.
B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
C. Participates in and promotes the "I CARE" service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
E. Maintains 24-hour accountability for clinical practice of Respiratory Care, delivery of patient care and staffing on a selected shift.
F. Organizes shift goals and objectives to promote institutional values and goals.
G. Facilitates development of licensed and non-licensed personnel.
H. Hires, promotes, transfers, and terminate staff with primary emphasis placed on staff retention.
I. Develops, implements, and maintains Respiratory Care policy and procedure.
J. Departmental compliance to TJC and CAP standards, federal and state regulations.
K. Demonstrates effective communication by expressing ideas clearly and utilizing appropriate communication strategies.
L. Utilizes a self-directed approach to education and self improvement.

IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:
A. As patient care dictates, may work in a clinical capacity delivering patient care to the following patient age categories (check all that may apply):

B. Organizes shift and departmental goals and objectives to promote institutional values, goals, and maintain accountability for shift operations.
C. Accountable for facilitating development of respiratory personnel and maintains an environment that is supportive of students in respiratory care and allied health.
D. Maintains leadership accountability and responsibility in identifying problems, formulating plans and initiating corrective measures.
E. Demonstrates skills in decision making for hiring, promotion, transfers, and termination of staff with primary emphasis placed on staff retention.
F. Helps develop and maintain fiscal budget based on shift goals, historical data and trends and maintains effective productivity on assigned shift through effective scheduling and workload assignments.
G. Role Model - reflects professional attitude and work ethics through attendance, appearance, and behavior.
H. Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly. Actively listens and follows appropriate channels of communication.
I. Coordinates and/or delegates written evaluation of professional and non-licensed respiratory care personnel in a timely manner.
J. Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
V. Qualifications:
A. Licensure: Holds a current Texas license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
B. Credentials: Holds a current Certified Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
C. Certifications: Current BLS Certification and ACLS through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.
D. Training and Experience:
Must be in a full time status. Minimum of 5 years full-time experience with 3 years critical care experience. Prefer minimum 1 year experience in a defined leadership role.
