    Summary The Radiology DRT CT Lead Technologist has the overall responsibility for the coordination and performance of the diagnostic radiography and CT exam services, both inpatient and outpatient, and routine and STAT orders. The incumbent works closely with the technologists, radiologists, clinicians and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic/therapeutic exam results, and patient satisfaction. Determines CT staffing requirements based on past, present, and future workload patterns and advises on weekly and monthly schedules. 2. Organizes CT staff work assignments, including lunch and break rotations. Reports absences and tardiness to the Chief Technologist. Coordinates with supervisor/chief technologist on leave requests i.e., vacation schedules, to maintain optimal staffing levels 3. Recommends the reassignment of technologists, if necessary, because of call-ins or increased/decreased workload. 4. Meets with administrative staff regularly to discuss opportunities and ideas of improvement for the CT Scan area. 5. Notifies the Chief of Radiology or the Chief Technologist about arising issues in radiology, specifically the CT Scan area. 6. Responsible for training and orientation for all CT Technologists in any new CT procedures and the use of all CT support equipment such as Radiology Information Systems including PACS, venipuncture and assuring competencies are maintained. 7. Coordinates exams in a manner to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases. This requires the ability to prioritize scheduled patients as well as the ability to accommodate the emergency patient who may need immediate emergency surgery, etc. 8. Confers with radiologists to determine requirement of non-standard exams. Determines technical factors, positioning, number and thickness of scans, etc., to produce and satisfy requirements of CT scanning. Advises radiologists or referring physicians of examination results. Notifies them of scans requiring their immediate attention. 9. Capable of performing reconstructions of general CT and CT angiographic studies when requested or when part of a standard procedure. 10. Ensures CT unite QA and protocol optimization in collaboration with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to maintain image quality while minimizing radiation exposure per ALARA guidelines. 11. Coordinates quarterly CT safety meeting with RSO for quality assurance purposes and requirements. Be a citizen of the United States. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced certification in Computed Tomography is REQUIRED for this position. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). Computed Tomography (CT). This specialty modality requires specific knowledge of cross sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or, multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans, including drainages, biopsies, and peripheral vascular examinations. The technologist requires specific knowledge and training in the location, appearance, and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination; to interpret the examination request accurately; to understand the functioning and inter- relationship of the various organs; to use the methods and techniques which will identify organs 4 appearing on the digital display monitor, or on film, and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or scan for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of interest to the physician. DRT assignments that include performance of independent duties in this subspecialty require advanced ARRT certification. Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field. Grade Determinations: Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-10 Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level Assignments. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the 11 incumbent at least 25% of the time. DRTs at this grade level may be appointed to one of the following assignments: Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. The incumbent functions as a lead DRT for a group of DRTs at the GS-9 level and below. The incumbent provides a full range of general radiologic imaging exams, has a broad knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area, and is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): i. Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work. ii. *Ability to resolve informal employee complaints. iii.*Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures. iv. Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations Computed Tomography (CT).
