8 hours per day, 10 months per year

This position is responsible for interpretation and translation services for students and families in the District. Vancouver Public Schools is actively seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our team as a Russian Interpreter/Translator. QUALIFICATIONS:
+ A bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in positions working with families whose first language is not English, or a minimum of two (2) years of college level studies plus two (2) years of directly related experience working with families whose first language is not English
+ Minimum of two years working with diverse populations in an American education setting preferred
+ Fluency and literacy in English and Russian is required
+ Excellent interpersonal skills along with strong problem-solving skills
+ Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others adults and families in a team-oriented setting
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Experience working with diverse, socio-economic populations
+ Demonstrated experience and/or familiarity with educational systems; second language acquisition; bilingual literacy; staff development models and management support
+ Demonstrated experience conducting staff and parent trainings preferred
+ Intermediate level computer skills in MS Office Suite including Word and Excel and Google Drive including Calendar, Documents and Mail
+ Excellent bilingual oral and written skills; experience interpreting and translating in the school setting preferred
Essential Functions:
+ Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
+ Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
+ Serve as a positive role model for students by practicing the behaviors that are expected of our students
+ Provide oral interpreting and translation services to assigned schools and departments upon request
+ Excellent spoken and written communication skills
+ Attend training meetings as requested
+ Provide translations in a timely manner to requesting buildings or departments
+ Provide support for families at evening events, ie: conferences, family engagement activities, back to school night etc.
+ Interpret for families at Special Education meetings ie: IEP initial and annual renewal meetings and evaluation and eligibility meetings
+ Support families and school staff as a neutral party to convey information accurately and with integrity
+ Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position
+ Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Benefits/Compensation:
Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement. Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits. Time Off: Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave.
+ Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
+ Personal Leave: 3 days per school year
+ Twelve (12) month full-time Pro Tech employees are eligible to accrue ten (10) days vacation at one (1) - five (5) years of service. The accrual days are incrementally improved by five (5) days at the completion of five (5), eleven (11) and twenty (20) consecutive years of service respectively.
