• Senior Data Architect

    Job Description

    We are looking for a Senior Data Architect to spearhead a large-scale data migration initiative from Oracle to SQL Server while ensuring data integrity, security, and scalability. The ideal candidate will have a deep expertise in enterprise data management with a Master Data Management (MDM) mindset and be well-versed in Azure and/or AWS cloud environments. This role requires strategic leadership, technical acumen, and the ability to design robust, scalable data architectures in hybrid cloud and on-prem environments. This person will be required to either travel on-site frequently for the first month or so if they are working far from the office or required to be on-site 3 days a week if local to the Richmond, VA area. We can pay $70-95/hour to this depending on experience.

    Responsibilities:

    - Design and lead data migration strategies from Oracle to SQL Server.

     

    - Define and implement data architecture standards and best practices.

     

    - Ensure data integrity, quality, and governance with an MDM approach.

     

    - Collaborate with cloud engineers to deploy and manage data solutions in Azure or AWS, as well as on traditional Windows VM infrastructure.

     

    - Architect and optimize ETL processes, data pipelines, and performance tuning strategies to enhance data processing efficiency.

     

    - Design and implement high-performance indexing, partitioning, and query optimization techniques for SQL Server.

     

    - Lead data security initiatives, ensuring encryption, role-based access control, and compliance with industry standards.

     

    - Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior data architects and engineers.

    Skills and Requirements

     

    - 10+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture and management.

     

    - Proven track record of successfully migrating large-scale datasets from Oracle to SQL Server.

     

    - Deep expertise in SQL Server architecture, performance optimization, and database tuning.

     

    - Strong knowledge of Azure Data Services (Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics) and/or AWS data solutions (RDS, Redshift, Glue).

     

    - Extensive experience with MDM frameworks, data governance, and metadata management.

     

    - Proficiency in modern ETL tools, including Apache Airflow/Dagster, SSIS, or Azure Data Factory, Parquet files, etc. - experience with government clients null
