Job Summary and Qualifications
The Medication Compliance Specialist shall perform activities to support the facility’s medication diversion program and controlled substance monitoring. This position assists the facility Medication Diversion Team (MDT) with preventing and detecting diversion as well as ensuring compliance with applicable policies, laws, regulations, and other governmental requirements. Such duties include conducting reviews, assessments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting with investigations related to medication diversion prevention and detection. The Specialist might support the medication diversion program and safety at multiple facilities within the division, with the facility scope determined by geographic and facility workload considerations.
Major Responsibilities:
+ Supports the medication diversion prevention program and activities at the facility in an independent manner, separated from operational duties of pharmacy or nursing staff.
+ Conducts periodic reviews and assessments of medication data, reports, documentation, and information deemed pertinent and as required by company policies and standards.
+ Monitors controlled substance handling processes for compliance.
+ Accurately reports findings from reviews and assessments to the facility DOP and DDPO
+ Maintains secure, robust and readily retrievable data and documentation as required.
+ Collaborates with nursing and pharmacy managers to ensure the completion of monthly, weekly, daily and more frequent monitoring requirements.
+ Collects, analyzes, and trends medication related data from across the facility, including but not limited: medication utilization, medication handling compliance, medication security and medication safety.
+ Attends and assists with coordination of monthly and ad hoc facility MDT meetings, and supports that Team by developing and submitting required reports for MDT review.
+ Assists the MDT with investigations of suspected diversion events by collecting relevant data and reports, and by collaborating with various leaders, such as nursing and pharmacy.
+ Serves as a subject matter expert with respect to medication diversion prevention policies and requirements.
+ Reports facility compliance with all pertinent medication diversion prevention policies by conducting periodic assessments as required by policy.
+ Maintains knowledge of programs and clinical processes relevant to medication diversion investigations (e.g. Electronic Medical Records and Automated Dispensing Cabinets).
+ Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to controlled substance management and diversion (e.g. DEA, FDA, CMS, Board of Pharmacy, The Joint Commission, and EPA).
+ Familiarity with ISMP, ASHP and other relevant standards and best practices.
What qualifications you will need:

Required:
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ Prior experience with pharmacy, nursing and/or hospital clinical operations
Preferred:
+ Associate or Bachelor Degree
+ Three to five (3-5) years of progressive analytic, auditing experience, preferably in a health care setting
Licenses, Certifications and Training:
+ Pharmacy Technician Cert Board is Preferred
