The Public Policy and Economic Impact Communications Team is seeking an experienced Comms Manager to lead proactive communications and media relations for our for policy communications and economic impact team. This individual will build and execute successful strategic communications campaigns, deftly manage inbound media inquiries relating to policy, reputation, economic impact, and drive awareness among key media and influencers of Amazon’s positive impact on customers and the communities where we operate, with a focus on HQ2 and other hub locations across the U.S.
This work includes storytelling through a variety of communications channels, including traditional earned, owned, and social media. This role is focused on the amplification of economic impact and community investments and dynamic policy work across exciting portfolios including workplace and economic development. This role will work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure we are driving a positive narrative on the ways in which Amazon is a force for good in our HQ2 community and across our headquarters state. This person will shine a light on the positive impact Amazon has cities and communities across the U.S., as well as support our public policy team in advocating for a policy environment that allows us to innovate for our customers at the federal and state level. This individual will also work closely with our policy research team, company economists, and third-party organizations to lead research projects and the amplification of results both through external campaigns and in collaboration with other PR and business teams across the company.
This individual must have a proven record of delivering results for a complex organization, under tight deadlines, and be comfortable and confident as an on-the-record spokesperson. To be successful in this role, this individual will need excellent communications skills, writing ability, initiative, and a talent for collaboration. Creativity and attention to detail, insisting on the highest standards in execution is a must.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop and execute communication strategies and plans to support Amazon’s economic impact and policy priorities across the U.S., with a focus on our second headquarters and important hub locations.
- Drive proactive, positive storytelling across a variety of channels to highlight Amazon’s positive impact in HQ2 and across its headquarters state.
- Manage media engagements both proactively and reactively to enhance and protect Amazon’s reputation as a good employer, good neighbor and community partner, and an economic driver for small businesses and communities.
- Create and execute communications campaigns alongside state policy and business PR partners to educate policymakers and media around policy issues impacting Amazon businesses;
- Conduct research and monitor industry trends and developments to identify opportunities for enhancing communications campaigns.
- Substantial experience with building and maintaining media relationships, and managing media cycles.
- Deliver communications counsel to the public policy and business teams on both short- and long-term challenges and opportunities, earning trust across many parts of Amazon’s business.
- Manage the long-term planning processes and day-to-day execution of economic and social/community impact reports.
- Drive issues management programs with a policy lenses and serve as key communications counselor on crisis issues alongside the public policy and global issues management teams.
- Collaborate on internal and third-party research projects, leading the communications and amplification strategy and execution. Work closely with public policy, our policy research team, company economists, and third-party organizations to lead research projects.
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field
- 7+ years of recent project management
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritization, planning, and task delegation
- Experience working with global teams
- Ability to work with and manage multiple teams and stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in media relations
- Experience in communications campaigns
- Understanding of federal and state governments
