As Pre-Construction managers, we are the nationwide team responsible for planning the construction of the Amazon’s new sites. We are on the forefront of creating and delivering the most innovative products to our customers; and are known for innovating the possibilities of cloud computing.

     

    As a Pre-Construction Engineer your primary responsibility will to define and scope individual construction contracts for new data center campus expansions. In addition, you will support the development and implementation of Pre-Construction executions across the nation in a multitude of campuses, by assisting in the liaisons between Real Estate, Design-Engineering, Due Diligence, Construction Management, and Procurement to support planning, design development, construction budgeting, and constructability guidance. Our goal is to find the candidate with practical construction experience in bidding, contracting, construction documents, industry infrastructure, design, and engineering.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Develop and leverage knowledge of data center design and its equipment (Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Switchgear, Transformers, Power Feeders & Busduct, Chillers, Plumbing, Fire Detection/Suppression, Air Handling Units, Computer Room Air Handling/Conditioning Units).

    • Perform general constructability reviews of scopes associated with the construction of new data centers building and sites and to ensure completeness.

    • Assist in contract phasing evaluations.

    • Work to define construction scope areas for Request for Proposals to General Contractors. Review bid summaries, schedules and milestones, pricing, in subcontractor level bid evaluations.

    • Evaluate contract bids, proposals, and scoping documents with detail and accuracy and assist in negotiations with general contractors

    • Assist in the management of GC and other third-party vendors delivering preconstruction services during the design phase.

    • Support creation and issuance contracting documents (i.e., Work Orders, Purchase Orders, Work Letters).

    • Craft contract project handoff documentation to Construction Manager partners.

    • Collect, evaluate, and share lessons learned to direct teammates, and peers in design, and construction teams to achieve continuous improvement across the entire program.

    • Ability to travel 25% of the time.

    Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent STEM degree with 2+ years of relevant execution experience. In lieu of degree, 4+ years direct and relevant experience in the design or construction execution of infrastructure, mission critical facilities, or data center delivery (design, commissioning, construction) or equivalent large-scale projects.

     

    • Ability to read, comprehended and asses construction documents, specifications, and due diligence memorandums.

    • Familiarity in the core functions of project scheduling

    • Direct experience in construction project delivery

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with cross function teams to deliver complex construction projects.

    • Able to communicate clearly both orally and written, with use of data to justify conclusions, to create and communicate concepts to diverse audiences

    • Experience in developing and maintaining effective document control procedures

    • Experience with design or construction of data centers, critical infrastructure, or large-scale MEP plants; and with systems, controls, commissioning, power management, and technical operations of data centers critical infrastructure, or large-scale MEP plants.

    • Professional licensure in AEC fields. High level knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
