An expanding, Tier-1 ranked “Best Lawyers” Long Island personal injury defense law firm, known for excellence in civil litigation liability defense, is seeking a full-time Personal Injury Defense Associate with 5-8 years’ experience to join our team. This hybrid position offers flexibility with the ability to work from Lake Success headquarters (preferred) or the NYC office, with required travel to Long Island when necessary.
About the Role:
We are looking for an associate with superior research and writing skills who can independently handle key civil litigation tasks while collaborating with a team on high-profile institutional defense cases. Specifically, our firm is at the forefront of defending organizations in complex matters arising under statutes such as the Child Victims Act (CVA), Adult Survivors Act, and Victims of Gender Motivated Violence Act.
Responsibilities:
+ Case Management: Represent businesses, religious institutions, and other organizations in high-stakes litigation defense matters related to sexual misconduct, abuse, and neglect claims.
+ Substantial Motion Practice: Draft, research, and effectively present pre-answer, discovery, and dispositive motions with high proficiency in strategic motion writing and appeals.
+ Legal Analysis: Investigate claims, analyze evidence, assess risk, and provide innovative defense strategies tailored to complex institutional liabilities.
+ Litigation: Handle depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials independently while maintaining professionalism and client advocacy under tight deadlines.
+ Client Communication: Maintain prompt, courteous, and effective communication with clients to ensure trust and transparency.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with clients, paralegals, and fellow attorneys to manage caseloads and achieve litigation goals.
Requirements
Qualifications:
+ 5-8 years of experience in general civil litigation, liability defense, or comparable practice areas such as Family Law, Sexual Abuse/Neglect, or Criminal Law.
+ Admitted to practice in New York and in good standing with the NY State Bar.
+ Proven ability to draft detailed and persuasive motions, conduct depositions, and oversee discovery matters.
+ Experience handling high-volume litigation with flexibility to manage multiple cases.
+ Background in substantial motion practice or appellate work is strongly preferred.
+ Open to candidates transitioning from plaintiff-side practice to defense-side work.
+ Must be analytical, motivated, efficient, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment.
