Description
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our client's team on a contract basis in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in technical accounting, nonprofit or government financial reporting, and familiarity with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, compliance, and ensuring the accuracy of financial data while driving process improvements.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare comprehensive financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, in alignment with HUD regulations.
• Support the creation of budgets and financial forecasts that align with organizational objectives and funding requirements.
• Manage grant and fund accounting processes, ensuring compliance with HUD guidelines and proper tracking of allocations.
• Oversee general ledger activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and coordinate audit preparations with external auditors.
• Utilize Abila accounting software to maintain accurate financial records and streamline accounting processes.
• Analyze financial data using advanced Excel tools to identify trends and support decision-making.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and enhance financial reporting accuracy.
• Monitor adherence to HUD regulations and provide recommendations for maintaining compliance.
Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, with expertise in financial reporting, grant management, and compliance.
• Strong proficiency in Abila accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
• Extensive knowledge of HUD regulations and fund accounting principles.
• Prior experience working within nonprofit organizations or government entities is highly preferred.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Excellent communication abilities and the capacity to work independently or within a team.
• Proven problem-solving skills and a commitment to maintaining financial accuracy.
