    Position Title:Postdoc Research Associate - Applied Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

    Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Department of English at Iowa State University seeks applicants for a position as a postdoctoral scholar with cross-disciplinary skills and interests in applied linguistics and artificial intelligence (AI), with an emphasis on language-related generative AI capabilities and uses. Examples include the uses of generative AI that replace human-human interaction for seeking advice and learning, and that augment displays of human communication, compassion, reasoning, and professional judgment. This is a twelve-month appointment, renewable once depending on availability of funds. The position has a negotiable start date of August 16, 2025. In addition to assisting with research on the use of generative AI, the successful applicant will support professional development activities (e.g., conferences, workshops, and publication) targeting increased understanding of generative AI in applied linguistics and the humanities.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    + Ph.D. and Demonstrated experience in artificial intelligence (AI) in applied linguistics

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Demonstrated knowledge and experience with artificial intelligence

    + Experience in editing and publication processes

    + Demonstrated successful online learning and teaching

    + Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative and quantitative applied linguistics research skills

    + Demonstrated experience collaborating with a variety of scholars or teachers

     

    This position offers an annual salary plus benefits and a research fund. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
