    About the Indiana Department of Environmental Management:

    Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.

    Role Overview:

    The Grant Analyst is responsible for the fiscal administration of the grant portfolios within the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. This includes records, control of appropriated and authorized funds, and accurate, timely, and complete accounting of assigned accounts within PeopleSoft Financials and E-Civis. The ideal candidate is resourceful, efficient, and organized.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential functions of this role are as follows:

    + Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records financial reports to assess compliance with procedural standards.

    + Maintain or examine the records of government agencies.

    + Advise the appointing authority and/or controller of the status of all accounts.

    + Develop policies and procedures for general accounting and bookkeeping.

    + Oversee usage of the computerized accounting system.

    + Establish work methods and control measures for accounting/bookkeeping functions.

    + Certify the accuracy of the agency’s financial records and accounts.

    + Review reports for grant reconciliation for grant funded accounts.

    + Direct program staff in accounting matters relating to specific program funding.

    + Assist controller in budget preparation.

    This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

    + Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of public accounting.

    + Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws, policies, and procedures as they pertain to accounting and bookkeeping.

    + Extensive knowledge of agency organization, function, and purpose.

    + Extensive knowledge of automated accounting systems.

    + Ability to lead budget preparations.

    + Ability to direct the preparation and interpretation of complex financial statements and reports.

    + Ability to analyze and solve complex accounting problems.

    + Ability to develop new, or modify existing, accounting procedures and methods.

    + Effective communication skills.

    + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
