    Position Summary

    * *

    Sovah Health is looking for the ideal candidate whowill recognize, manage, and rehabilitate injuries to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act.. Provides techniques for prevention of injuries and instructs/trains on safe exercise techniques. Assists with development, coordination and administration of the sports medical program.

     

    • Develops overall sports medicine program including injury prevention, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and educational programs for students, coaches and assistant athletic trainers.

    • Coordinates and schedules physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.

    • Responsible for the formation of the athletic training staff, including assisting with hiring, training and supervision of assistant/associate athletic trainers and student athletic trainers. Schedules staff for the program.

    • Prepares athletes for practice or competition.

    • Evaluates and manages injuries and determines whether a referral is necessary. Maintains a medical file on each athlete and acts as a liaison between the physician and the athlete.

    • Implements treatment and rehabilitation programs under the supervision of a physician. Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.

    • Develops conditioning programs for injured and noninjured athletes.

    • Responsible for recordkeeping, documentation and tracking of all sports injuries.

    • Acts as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents.

    *Minimum Qualifications***

    Minimum Education

    Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization.

    Required Skills

    Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

    Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Requires hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to allow for suture or staple removal.

    Requires normal hearing and eyesight to allow for patient interaction and transfer of patient information from the patient to pen chart. Need to have the ability to handle high amounts of stress.

    Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (BLS). Must be NATA BOC certified and possess or be in the process of acquiring licensure, certification or registration for the state of VA. Certified in Concussion Management.

    Minimum Work Experience

    Two to three years professional experience required.
