Telework is an option; however, at least one day per week in a FWP office is required. The current technology stack is primarily Java based web development with RDBMS backends. Relevant skills include programing in Java, Spring, JSP, Thymeleaf, Javascript, JQuery, HTML, and CSS. Database design and development is primarily performed in Oracle and PostGreSQL. Mobile application development skills are also of value for both Android and iOS based platforms. *Job Duties: * The incumbent software engineer for the Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks works to manage and augment a full technology stack by writing code to develop and support both general computer application software and specialized utility programs for the agency. They will design custom software solutions and configure or augment third-party software for FWP program use with an emphasis on optimizing operational efficiency. As a full stack engineer, the incumbent will apply learned principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to their work on both front-end and back-end programming. They will analyze and query existing relational databases as well as design new ones. They will write code using generalpurpose programming languages and object-oriented design principles to manage the business layer of internal FWP applications. They will also use markup and style sheet languages to control the flow and presentation of the user interface layer of many internal applications. In addition to leveraging their technical skills, the incumbent is expected to be able to review current system capabilities, workflows, and scheduling limitations in order to provide suggestions for automation or improvement. The incumbent will analyze and document enduser needs, requirements, procedures and problems for work. The incumbent demonstrates an ability to use technical and industry-specific language to communicate with their colleagues as well as the ability to use common language to simplify complex subjects in order to communicate with co-workers in other business areas. Additionally, the incumbent should be willing to provide input and recommendations for the agency's long-term information technology strategic plan, assist in determining the overall policies for technology standards, and assist in the enforcement of FWP and State information technology standards, policies and procedures. The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent or better than an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management, or a closely related field. If applicant does not possess a degree, they are expected to have either two or more years of professional experience as a programmer or a personal code portfolio they are willing to share that demonstrates the equivalent of two years of dedicated programming work. Other directly relevant job experience that could provide the required work experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered on a case-by-case basis. *Please note that this position is not fully remote.
