JOB TITLE: Senior DSP Software Engineer (Job Code: AK0923)
JOB DETAILS:
Design and implement audio signal processing algorithms for Bluetooth communications, voice, and music processing. Develop, analyze, and refactor embedded DSP software for low-power or battery-powered Sonos products using resource-constrained embedded fixed- and floating-point DSP hardware platforms. Develop optimized, scalable and tunable DSP algorithm implementations using high-level languages (C, Python, Matlab) and low-level languages (fixed-point assembly). Design memory maps, balancing execution speed and memory trade-offs. Port algorithms across DSP hardware platforms, ensuring scalability and efficiency. Debug complex low-level problems that may span interfaces between hardware and software. Define feature requirements by collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams and planning development tasks with a deep understanding of the underlying algorithms, DSP platforms, and interconnections with the wider system. Profile DSP algorithms to optimize resource usage and support power management decisions. Collaborate with acoustics teams to create testing and tuning tools for audio processing software. Partner with QA teams to create test cases, stimuli, and validation tools. Must report to Sonos’ office in Louisville, KY when not working from home.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field plus 2 years of experience in the offered position or related position.

+ Embedded DSP software development experience.
+ Experience in developing signal processing software for low-power audio devices for applications, including Bluetooth audio codecs and music/voice processing pipelines on battery powered products.
+ Understanding of Bluetooth fundamentals and Bluetooth Classic and LE Codecs.
+ Experience with programming signal processing blocks on embedded DSPs using fixed-point C and/or assembly.
+ Experience in prototyping and tuning algorithms in Python and/or MATLAB.
+ Understanding of DSP fundamentals, including filtering, correlation, pitch detection, frequency transforms, and temporal and spectral noise shaping commonly used in voice and music processing.
+ Experience with C compilers, Git and audio signal processing libraries in Python and Matlab.
+ Experience in optimizing runtime DSP software to meet MIPS and memory targets by using hardware-specific intrinsics, vectorized algorithm implementations, and mathematical manipulations.
+ Experience with developing, debugging, and profiling DSP software on platforms, including Synopsys ARC EM DSPs, Qualcomm Kalimba DSPs, ARM Cortex M cores, or ON Semiconductor LPDSP32 DSPs.
+ Knowledge of fixed-point arithmetic and precision headroom challenges in audio processing.
+ Ability to identify, debug, and resolve audio artifacts in fixed-point DSP implementations.
+ Knowledge of perceptual audio quality measurement tools, including PEAQ and PESQ.
