    Eligible candidates who accept or decline appointment either as a n Electronic Equipment Maintainer or as a Revenue Equipment Maintainer will have their name removed from the hiring list.

    Compensation:

    Salary Range: The current minimum salary for Electronic Equipment Maintainer and Revenue Equipment Maintainer is $45.15 per hour for a 40-hour week. This rate is subject to change. The benefits of this position include, but are not limited to, night and weekend salary differentials, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, a comprehensive medical plan and a pension plan.

    Responsibilities:

    Revenue Equipment Maintainers, under supervision, test, diagnose, repair and perform preventative maintenance on bus and subway Automated Fare Collection Equipment and point of sale devices. They diagnose, troubleshoot, remove and replace electronic circuit boards, wiring harnesses, electronic and electromechanical modular units, and other components using digital multimeters, wiring schematics, palmtop computers and other special test equipment. They remove and replace revenue equipment items, such as fare boxes, turnstile assemblies and fare vending machine assemblies. They keep records and prepare reports; drive motor vehicles between work sites, including, but not limited to, cars, light trucks and vans, and perform related work.

     

    Some of the physical activities performed by Revenue Equipment Maintainers and environmental conditions they experience are: distinguishing colors under poorly lit working conditions in order to troubleshoot complex equipment; responding to sounds, warning bells, horns and vehicle movement; walking between tightly spaced lifting and carrying heavy materials; and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

     

    Electronic Equipment Maintainers, under supervision, maintain, install, inspect, test, alter and repair electronic wireless and wired communication systems, and digital and analog control equipment and systems in the shop or in the field, including radio systems, closed circuit video equipment, and other electronic communication equipment; perform circuit testing, analysis, and fault identification; keep records; operate motor vehicles; and perform related work.

     

    Some of the physical activities performed by Electronic Equipment Maintainers and environmental conditions they experience are: climbing ladders, distinguishing colors to troubleshoot complex equipment, accurately distinguishing shapes under poorly lit working conditions, moving out of the way of moving trains and motor vehicles, working on or near tracks having live 600-volt contact rails, walking along the track in dimly lit areas, loading and unloading vehicles and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

    Qualification Requirements:

    Revenue Equipment Maintainer:

    When you apply, you must meet the following requirements:

    Two years of full-time journey-level experience (i.e. you must be a fully trained , knowledgeable, experienced, proficient, and competent technician) in maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, calibrating and repairing equipment, incorporating microprocessors, and related electronic equipment.

    For the above journey-level experience to be credited, it must be preceded by one of the following:

    + Two years of full-time experience as a technician, technician’s helper, apprentice or trainee performing or assisting in the work described above; or

    + Graduation from a trade school or technical school, with a major course of study in electrical, electronic, electromechanical, or computer technology, or a closely related field, totaling 600 hours; or

    + Graduation from a vocational high school with a major course of study in electrical, electronic, electromechanical, or computer technology, or a closely related field; or

    + An associate degree or higher in electrical, electronic, electromechanical, or computer technology, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

     

    If you have qualifying part-time experience, it will be credited on a prorated basis.

    Electronic Equipment Maintainer:

    Internal Candidates:

    This position is open to each employee of MTA New York City Transit that is permanently (not provisionally) employed in the title of Transit Electrical Helper working in Electronic Equipment Maintenance and has been permanently employed in such title for not less than one year; and is not otherwise ineligible.

    OR

    External Candidates and MTA Employees who are not employed in the eligible title listed above: When you apply, you must meet the following requirements:

    1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience at the journey level (i.e., you must be a fully-trained knowledgeable, experienced, proficient, and competent technician), in the maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, calibrating and repair of complex electronic equipment employing analog and digital circuitry; or

    2. Two years of full-time satisfactory experience at the journey level as described in paragraph “1” above, plus completion of one of the following listed below before obtaining your journey-level experience:

    A. Two years of full-time satisfactory experience as a technician’s helper, apprentice or trainee performing or assisting in the work described above; or

    B. Graduation from a trade school or technical school, with a major course of study in electrical or electronic technology, or a closely related field, totaling 600 hours; or

    C. Graduation from a four-year vocational high school with a major course of study in electrical or electronic technology or a closely related field; or

    D. An associate’s degree in electrical or electronic technology, electrical engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

     

    The vocational high school, technical school, or trade school must be approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization. The college or university must be accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

    Requirements to be Appointed:

    Driver License Requirement: At the time of appointment, you must have a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York with no disqualifying restrictions that would preclude the performance of the duties of this title. If you have serious moving violations, a license suspension or an accident record you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment in the title.

     

    Drug Screening Requirement: You must pass a drug screening in order to be appointed.

     

    Residency: New York City residency is not required for this position.

     

    English Requirement: You must be able to understand and be understood in English to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

     

    Proof of Identity: Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, you must be able to prove your identity and your right to obtain employment in the United States prior to employment with MTA New York City Transit and MaBSTOA .

    Additional Information:

    Training: You may be required to undergo a formalized training course during your probationary period. Failure to successfully complete the training course may result in termination or return to your previously held permanent title.

     

    Probationary Period: You will be required to complete a probationary period. If you do not successfully complete the probationary period, you may be terminated or returned to your previously held permanent title.
