    Job Title: Request for Consideration – Police Officer , Homeless Outreach/Conditions Unit - Transit Operations

     

    Dept/Div: MTA Police Department /Transit Operations Division

     

    Supervisor: Sergeant , Homeless Outreach/ Conditions Unit

     

    Schedule: Three (3) tours of 12 hours and 20 minutes , with four (4) consecutive rest days with a giveback day every third week

    Summary:

    The Department is seeking qualified Members from the rank of Police Officer who are interested in being assigned to the Homeless Outreach/ Conditions Unit within Transit Operations Division. Police Officers will be deployed throughout the NYCT system to curb existing complaints and patterns of quality-of-life conditions and issues. Police Officers will take a proactive approach in enforcing quality of life conditions working primarily in plainclothes. Police Officers will be deployed to MTAPD Transit hubs and throughout the NYCT system as conditions arise. Police Officers will take appropriate enforcement action when violations are observed, and crimes are committed. Police Officers will receive direction and deployment assignments primarily from the Homeless Outreach. Conditions Unit Sergeant, the Transit Operations Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and any other Transit Operations Supervisor as deemed necessary.

    Responsibilities:

    + Receive direction and guidance from Homeless Outreach/ Conditions Unit Sergeant .

    + Deploy to NYCT subway stations and work in a team setting addressing quality of life conditions .

    + Identify and address quality of life conditions throughout the NYCT system .

    + Take appropriate enforcement action when violations are observed, and crimes are committed .

    + Participate in joint operations addressing QOL concerns with outside Police agencies such as NYPD, AMTRAK and PAPD.

    + Complete administrative duties as necessary such as daily activity sheets and case reports .

    + Attend interagency meetings representing the department as needed.

    + Perform various other duties as assigned by the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer .

    Qualifications:

    Qualified Police Officers must , at a minimum, possess the following qualifications to be considered for appointment :

    + Hold the rank of Police Officer the MTA Police Department is required.

    + Prior experience within the Transit Operations Division is preferred.

    + Proficiency in preparing reports such as case reports and daily activity .

    + Proficiency in issuing summonses in the field including TAB and NYC Criminal Court summonses .

    + Proficiency in effecting arrests and arrest processing, including use of NYPD OMNI, Data Works.

    + Proficiency working in a plainclothes assignment .

    + Highly motivated with a proactive approach to enforcing NYCT Rules and Regulations .

    + Strong communication skills .

    + Demonstrate a cooperative attitude and ab ility to work with members outside the unit without causing disruptions .
