    Job Overview:

    The Labor and Delivery Technicianis responsible for assisting the Perioperative team in maintaining maximum work levels. Upholds policies and procedures in order to maintain a high level of service and professionalism to ensure CQI.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    + High School Diploma or equiv.

    + Graduate of a surgical tech program

    + Surgical Tech certification

    + BLS through the American Heart Association

    Scheduling Requirements:

    + Night Shift

    + Full-Time

    + 36 hours per week

    Essential Functions:

    + Assists RNs with appropriate nursing care for the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and surgical patient

    + Accurately obtains vital signs, weights, and I & Os, and documents on appropriate tools

    + Answers call bells promptly and courteously

    + Assists in appropriate positions for surgical procedures

    + Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process

    + Demonstrates and maintains aseptic technique when gowning, gloving, scrubbing, during surgical procedure and setting up delivery table,

    + Demonstrates competency in pain management by reporting patients' pain intensity to staff nurse

    + Demonstrates competency in restraint management and application

    + Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment

    + Identifies criteria for selecting method of disinfection and / or sterilization by following manufacturer s recommendations

    + Inspects instrument wrappers for integrity and expiration

    + Keeps the patient care area neat and clean

    + Prepares soiled instruments for Central Supply processing appropriately and in a timely manner

    + Properly collects, processes specimen logbook / labeling and transports specimens to the lab or morgue

    + Properly puts away sterile instruments upon delivery from Central Supply Processing

    + Responds appropriately to emergency situations

    + Safely transfers patients as needed from bed to wheelchair to stretcher, etc and maintains proper body mechanics

    + Stocks triage and labor rooms, operating rooms, fetal monitoring carts, warmers and shelves in sub sterile room as needed

    + Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service,

    + Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records,

    + Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors,

    + Listens and communicates effectively

    + Supports teamwork by cooperative problem solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc,

    + Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions

    + Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriate

    + Makes decisions that are timely and consistent with department, objectives, policies and procedures,

    + Demonstrates sound judgment; accepts and benefits from constructive criticism

    + Participates in ongoing education as required
