    Purpose and Scope:

    The Program Management Evolution Lead (PMEL) reports to the Head of Research Program Management (RPM) and leads transformation in program management efficiently and effectively to improve productivity of drug discovery research & development in Oncology Research.

     

    The PMEL is responsible for transforming research program management practices by incorporating agile style methodologies, Dx tools and systems in collaboration with stakeholders, Business Effectiveness and Efficiency, and the Head of RPM. This role fosters and drives innovation in program management, appropriately mentors RPM members with program management role &

     

    responsibility like Research Team Enablement Lead (ResTEL) and Early Research Program Promotor (ERPP), and delivers training programs to elevate capabilities, efficiency, integrity with sense of urgency across the members. The PMEL is also responsible for anticipating and addressing systemic barriers in the process of transforming to efficient, future-ready research program execution in Oncology Research.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    Strategic Execution

    + Support all research programs within Oncology Research by monitoring program progress with strategic alignment toward organizational goals.

    + Lead to identify best practices in research program management to improve productivity in Oncology Research.

    + Consider the way of transform research management system by incorporating agile methodologies, digital tools and systems.

    + Proactively identify and propose mitigation of organization-level risks in research program management, constraints, and conflicts.

    Operational Excellence & Methodology Advancement

    + Contribute to establish and implement best practices in research program management to foster a culture of efficiency, accountability, and innovation.

    + Incorporate new approaches and improvements into research program management in Oncology Research, including the use of digital tools and data-driven processes to maximize value and long-term impact.

    + Identify and champion contemporary program management templates, tools, and practices to enable consistent, efficient execution across all research programs in Oncology Research.

    + Support improvement and operational consistency across the RPM team through skill building, process enhancement, and implementation of common frameworks.

    + Mentor RPM team as needed and delivers training programs to elevate capabilities, efficiency, integrity with sense of urgency across the members.

    + Align R&D operating models and methodologies with evolving research and organizational priorities.

    Qualifications:

    Required

    + Advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) in Life Sciences, or a related field.

    + At least 10 years relevant experience in pharmaceutical company or in academic research with dee[ understanding of Drug Discovery and Development process.

    + Demonstrated effective cross-functional leadership in drug discovery research and/or clinical development projects.

    + Deep understanding of drug discovery process, R&D operating model, and communication network with stakeholders in Astellas.

    + Experience attending more than one type of the following meetings: IND/IMPD, NDA/MAA, Advisory Committee or other PMDA/EMA/FDA and preparing IND, IMPD, NDA, etc.

    + Strong business acumen and understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations and processes (e.g. IND, NDA submissions).

    + Understanding of program management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet) and methodology. Knowledge and ability to improve project management tools and skillset through best practices.

    + Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional scientific and business stakeholders.

    + Proven ability to respectfully challenge and influence senior leaders.

    + Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

    + Exceptional critical thinking, judgment, and analytical skills to evaluate the importance and urgency of problems.

    + Track record of identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.

    + This position is based in US or Japan and requires some overseas/domestic business travels.

    Preferred

    + Experience of interacting with regulatory authorities or preparing IND, IMPD, NDA, etc.

    + Proficiency with Agile methodology

     

    Salary Range

     

    $175K – $240K (NOTE: Final salary could be more or less, based on experience)
