    The Department of Chemistry at the University of Vermont ( UVM ) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer, to start for the fall semester of 2025. We seek a creative, professional chemist with a passion for teaching and effective communication of science in the classroom. Applicants will be expected to teach several large-lecture sections of General Chemistry to primarily first-year students and to develop smaller elective courses in a specific sub-area of chemistry. Candidates who can also support other large-enrollment courses in the department are of particular interest. A Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field is expected. Prior independent teaching experience and/or training in pedagogy are desired.

    The department requests prospective candidates to submit a dossier via that includes:

    + a letter of interest;

    + a curriculum vitae (CV);

    + a teaching statement; and,

    + a statement on how the candidate has and will contribute to inclusive excellence (see below).

    The Department

    The Department of Chemistry serves chemistry and biochemistry majors as well as a robust graduate program primarily focusing on Ph. D.-level education. For a small sized chemistry department at a flagship state research university, the department maintains a robust research portfolio including collaborations from all corners of campus to around collaborations the world. At the same time, teaching in the department provides foundational learning in support of life science, engineering, and health-related majors as well as a wide swath of courses that support the Catamount Core general education curriculum.

    The Community

    UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on the shore of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State.
