The law school campus is also easily accessible within the greater Washington DC-Baltimore metropolitan region, close to I-95 and only 40 minutes from Washington by Amtrak or commuter rail. *Job Summary: *TheExecutive Director of Data & Educational Technologiesis responsible for managing and analyzing institutional data as a strategic asset across academic, administrative, and research functions and leading educational technology to enhance the quality of teaching, scholarship, and operations throughout the Law School. This will require communicating and coordinating with various stakeholders (e.g., Administration, Academic Affairs, Office of Registration & Enrollment, Faculty and Students) in a variety of contexts (e.g., survey design, data analysis, training). This position requires creativity, taking initiative and identifying solutions and opportunities across a diversity of areas. In addition to the other library & technology administrators, this position is responsible for promoting the value and services of these units while helping stakeholders understand and adapt to potential limits (e.g., best practices, resources). This is a Library Faculty position with teaching responsibilities that reports directly to the Associate Dean for Library & Technology. As a member of the library and technology administration, this position partners with other members of the library & technology administration to ensure a commitment to the UMB Core Values and law school mission are reflected in our services and operations. The successful hire will be required to adapt to the evolving needs of the law school (e.g., new and/or modified duties as assigned). *Essential Responsibilities include:* *Information Architect* · Develop and pilot solutions to discrete problems and challenges through the innovative application of relevant technologies and information (e.g., knowledge management). · Plan for and implement appropriate technologies for collaboration and information sharing. · Support and optimize processes that involve information and technologies in coordination with relevant stakeholders and train others as appropriate (e.g., advance registration; journal petitioning process). · Foster collaboration with departmental, university, and community partners to leverage resources and create new models of engagement with legal and emerging technologies as appropriate. *Data Analysis & Assessment* · Work with Law School administration and various departments to compile, analyze, and report data for various purposes (e.g., accreditation reports). · Provide data analysis and recommendations to the Dean and other stakeholders to support data-driven assessment and decision-making throughout the Law School (e.g., assessment of student outcomes and curricular effectiveness). · Develop and integrate assessment strategies and best practices on behalf of the library and law school more generally (see e.g.,American Library Association and Association of College & Research Libraries Assessment Proficiencies). · Ensure new initiatives and existing practices in the library are fully developed, operationalized, and assessed in service of the Law School community’s dynamic and evolving needs (e.g., Open Educational Resources). *Educational Technologies* · Teach courses relating to the law and technology and/or legal research methods. · Advise and assist with continual improvement of educational technology, including academic databases used for course management and registration processes. · Identify, analyze, and evaluate best practices in emerging legal and educational technologies with the ability to communicate this information to audiences throughout the Law School (e.g., educating faculty and students about educational technology and emerging issues, such as Artificial Intelligence and the Law). · Work closely with library, law school administration, and relevant faculty to help develop an intentional strategic vision for technology’s role in the future of legal education at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law (e.g., supporting efforts to expand the curriculum and research about technology). *Required Qualifications include:* · Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited program and Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA accredited program. · Minimum of five years of law library experience with at least three years in higher education. · Preference for demonstrated experience in data analysis, survey design, and educational technology. *ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES* · Strategic and analytical thinking skills with the ability to solve problems and make decisions in a rapidly evolving and unpredictable environment. · Ability to work effectively and creatively with an active, diverse community committed to continuous improvement. · Ability to navigate change comfortably. · Ability to participate in relevant law school, university, regional, and national committees as well as professional organizations (e.g., CALI, EDUCAUSE, ILTA) in order to contribute meaningfully to the work of the law school, grow professionally, and stay abreast of current and developing trends. · Ability to explore and examine data from a variety of angles to determine hidden weaknesses, trends, and/or opportunities. · Demonstrated aptitude for learning technology tools relating to job duties. · Knowledge of contemporary concepts and practices in law librarianship and commitment to engage in professional development in an ever-evolving profession. · Strong diagnostic, problem solving, and project management skills. · Experience in survey design. · Experience with learning management systems. · Experience in complex data management and analysis – especially Microsoft Excel. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * * *PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES* · Understand the unique needs and challenges of legal education. · Experience in strategic planning and administration. · Ability to support research and scholarship for faculty that involves large data set analysis. · Ability to advise faculty within the context of their scholarship to develop strategies to collect and analyze data. · Interest in and/or knowledge of statistics and empirical research methods. · Teaching or training experience. *Salary and Benefits:* The salary hiring range is $130,000 to $145,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is a 12-month library faculty appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to meet library and university requirements for permanent status and promotion within established timeframes.
