What Success Looks Like In This Job
Under general supervision, perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties involved in the maintenance and repair of gasoline, diesel, and electrically powered maintenance equipment.
Examples of Duties for Success
+ Perform preventive maintenance on gasoline, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
+ Perform minor and major overhauls of equipment, engines, and other major drive train components.
+ Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical difficulties on County diesel and gasoline-powered equipment, including utility vehicles, mowers, tractors, and heavy equipment.
+ Diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical system components, ignition systems, electronic controls, starters, and batteries.
+ Diagnose, maintain, repair, and recondition hydraulic systems and high-pressure water systems, including pumps, valves, rams, hoses, and motors.
+ Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.
+ Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, and clutches.
+ Repair and replace components such as generators, distributors, relays, switches, and light systems.
+ Repair, adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, master cylinders, disk pads, machine drums and rotors, hydraulic and air brakes.
+ Weld, braze, solder, and cut steel, stainless steel, and aluminum by torch, electric arc, mig welder, and plasma cutter; manufacture components to improve the operation of equipment.
+ Repair and maintain sanders, plows, and related snow removal equipment and systems.
+ Maintain cleanliness of work area and tools; ensure compliance with established safety procedures; maintain and repair shop equipment.
+ Operate dump trucks with equipment trailers and other equipment and vehicles.
+ Determine priority of repairs.
+ Maintain inventory control of shop tools and specialized shop equipment.
+ Maintain work time and material records.
+ Respond to service calls.
+ Respond to work during snowstorms as scheduled.
+ Assist in the purchasing of equipment maintenance parts and materials; order and pick up parts; maintain parts inventory.
+ Assist in the operations of the rental facilities within the Regional Park, which may include night and weekend shift work.
+ Deliver excellent customer service to clients, staff, and patrons of the Regional Park facilities.
+ Track, repair, organize, and assign keys and door hardware for the Parks Department.
+ Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success
+ Tools, equipment, and procedures used in the overhaul, repair, and adjustment of gasoline, diesel, and electrically powered parks maintenance equipment and vehicles.
+ Procedures of preventive maintenance related to equipment and vehicles.
+ Operating and repair characteristics of a wide variety of park maintenance equipment used in County government.
+ Utilize the methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in welding and fabrication work.
+ Utilize all tools, equipment, and procedures used in the overhaul, repair, and adjustment of gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
+ Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
+ Safe driving principles and practices.
+ Acknowledge operational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in the area of assigned work.
+ Safe work practices.
+ Operate a motor vehicle safely.
+ Operate computerized diagnostic equipment.
+ Operate a full range of equipment necessary to perform assigned duties in a safe and effective manner.
+ Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment.
+ Perform journey level equipment mechanical work including the diagnosing, troubleshooting, fabricating, and repair of park equipment.
+ Work independently in the absence of supervision.
+ Accurately determine mechanical repair needs and estimate the cost and time of repairs.
+ Use a variety of equipment maintenance tools and equipment.
+ Maintain a variety of shop and repair records.
+ Understand and follow oral and written directions.
+ Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
+ Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
+ Provide own tools.
+ Read and understand various manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
More Qualifications for Success
+ Experience:
+ Three (3) years of journey level experience performing repair and maintenance of construction, lawn and agriculture equipment.
+ Three (3) years of experience in repairs of gasoline, diesel and electric engines.
+ Education and Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance, including completion of specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
+ License or Certificate:
+ Obtain and maintain two (2) required ASE certifications within one year of employment
+ Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date, a valid Colorado commercial driver's license - class "B". A current copy of applicant's motor vehicle record must be provided at time of interview.
+ Adams County is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to conduct pre-employment drug screens, background checks and motor vehicle record checks. A successful candidate must pass all of the above, including a DOT physical and criminal background check.
+ Background Check:Must pass a criminal background check.
+ Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 100 pounds.
+ Exposure to noise, outdoors, confining work space, electrical hazards, vibration, dust, toxic waste, and mechanical hazards are common.
+ Availability for shift work, on-call and nights/weekend shift work is a pre-requisite.
