We are seeking an Electrical Technician to support the design, development, testing, and implementation of undersea sensors. As an experienced electrical technician, you will be expected to leverage your skills to assemble, evaluate/test, and maintain small electrical systems. Fine pitch soldering experience is required, as circuit card assemblies often require modification during design phases. Experience with lab test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, and function generators, is desired. You will provide feedback to the design team to help improve the assembly and maintenance of the systems, as well as aid in troubleshooting and addressing any issues the system may encounter.
Responsibilities
+ Under guidance from staff, support the development of innovative undersea sensors.
+ Assemble, evaluate, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, sensors, and apparatus.
+ Apply skills in areas such as digital circuit analysis and debugging, low voltage discrete clocks, analog circuit analysis and debugging, impedance measurements, cable and harness fabrication & connector crimping.
+ Perform chip removal/replacement, piezoelectric soldering, and low temperature soldering.
+ Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment.
+ Construct and fabricate parts, such as small electro-mechanical strain gauges, in compliance with specifications.
+ Read and interpret electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
+ Order, track, and maintain inventory of electrical supplies and equipment.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in assembling, maintaining, testing, and repairing prototype R&D systems.
+ 2-year electrical, technical, or related degree, or equivalent experience.
+ Soldering experience is required.
+ Familiarity with tools and parts used in assembly and test of electronic hardware, including soldering irons, crimp tools, connectors, wires, shrink sleeving, and epoxies.
+ Experience with fault-testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, and function generators.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience working with piezoelectric materials is preferred.
+ Existing certifications relevant to creating hardware for harsh/defense environments, such as IPC soldering, are preferred. Expired certifications are acceptable if the skill set has been applied within the last 2 years.
Work Environment
This position is 100% onsite in Arlington, VA, working in a lab environment. The team consists of 20 people, focusing on R&D projects for DARPA. The role involves working on projects from initial concept through to design for manufacturing, with minimal processes built out.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $60.00/hr.
