Are you knowledgeable in athletic facility maintenance, sports complexes, and park maintenance? As the Parks Supervisor for Wellfield Park, Bypass/Foxworthy Park, and Chuck Reiter Park locations, you would oversee the daily operations and athletic field maintenance staff. You would collaborate with the rest of the Sports Tourism, Facilities, & Programs division on best practices, renovations, and reservation support to ensure athletic fields and facilities are kept in excellent condition, maintain structural and aesthetic integrity. In this role, you will...
General Facility Maintenance
+ Develop maintenance programs that incorporate department standards as well as special considerations for assigned sites.
+ Train staff in proper turf and field maintenance practices, procedures, general upkeep, and maintenance of facilities at the sites.
+ Ensure the structural and aesthetic integrity of all athletic fields & courts and the facilities at the sites.
+ Conduct routine maintenance and safety inspections of athletic fields, courts, and facilities at the sites.
+ Identify necessary repair/maintenance needs for park amenities such as parking lots, restrooms, playgrounds, etc., and coordinate with the appropriate division to resolve them
+ Coordinate with the Division’s IPM and Renovations staff on scheduling of fertilizations, applications of herbicides and insecticides, and other cultural practices.
+ Maintain, review, and summarize daily activity logs/work orders for crews.
+ Review and monitor safety equipment, and instruct crews in proper work methods and correct safety procedures.
+ Support the Division’s renovation staff with annual renovation projects within the sites.
Facility Operations
+ Oversee the daily operations of assigned Park locations, focusing on customer service, facility reservations, and programming.
+ Assist with creating and managing shift schedules to ensure that park coverage is adequate during both regular hours and tournaments and/or events.
+ Collaborate with MGR II to develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards.
+ Interagency cooperation with Sarasota County Sheriff’s Officers, City of Venice Police Officers, and other local agency representatives.
+ Coordination with local leagues and athletic user groups to address issues, special requests, field lining needs, etc.
+ Ensure all necessary equipment, fields, and facilities are ready for tournaments and/or events.
+ In coordination with the Parks Planning and Development team, participate in Capital Improvement Project planning within the assigned sites – propose projects, provide feedback during design and concept planning, and facilitate vendor accessibility.
+ Prepare reports; collects, analyzes, and evaluates data and information and develops conclusions and recommendations thereon.
+ Hire necessary staff, conduct performance reviews, and handles employee relations issues.
+ On rotation, serve as County-wide Supervisor-on-Duty, or Supervisor-on-Call during tournaments and high-use periods such as evenings and weekends.
+ Communicate with tournament and event organizers, and league contacts as day-of site representative. Make decisions regarding weather cancellations, staffing needs, and special requests.
About the Schedule
Work Hours:
+ Full-time, 40 hours per week.
+ Typical hours: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
+ Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Possession of a high school equivalency diploma or its equivalent with four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in operations and maintenance of athletic fields, sports complexes, or recreation facilities;
+ -OR- an associate degree with two (2) years of experience in operations and maintenance of athletic fields, sports complexes, or recreation facilities.
+ A minimum of one year of supervisory experience is required.
+ Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
+ Valid Florida Drivers License.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Certified Parks & Recreation Professional.
+ A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
+ Experience with athletic tournaments, recreation facilities, and/or events.
+ Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
+ Specialized training and/or certification in irrigation, herbicide, and pesticide application and/or turf management.
About Everything Else
Starting Pay Range: $27.49 - $31.00 an hour, based on experience
