The Center for Immuno-Oncology (CIO) is seeking an experienced Research Operations Manager to oversee daily laboratory operations in the collection, processing and storage of patient biospecimens for research.

The CIO is a multi-disciplinary group dedicated to the discovery of novel biomarkers in clinical trials and clinical studies related to cancer immunotherapies spanning many different tumor types. The CIO’s Immune Assessment Laboratory (IAL) aims to provide researchers with access to the latest innovations in blood immune-monitoring in a quality-controlled setting (https://cioial.dana-farber.org/). Key laboratory techniques to study immune cell populations in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) include mass cytometry (CyTOF) and spectral flow cytometry (FACS), while proteomic cytokine detection methods such as Olink and Luminex are applied to plasma and serum. Importantly, the IAL are also involved in the collection of blood from patients participating in more than 50 clinical trials at DFCI and multiple external sites.

The Research Operations Manager (ROM) will work onsite daily in close partnership with the Leader of the IAL to direct the blood biobanking efforts for clinical trials and research collection protocols. They will oversee the entire biospecimen lifecycle, including patient sample collection, processing, storage, retrieval, distribution, inventory management, and regulatory compliance. The role will work collaboratively in communicating with multiple clinical research teams, laboratories, other biorepositories and vendors to ensure efficient and accurate specimen handling. The ROM will lead the implementation of new biospecimen management tools to ensure accurate tracking of biospecimens and their data. Furthermore, they will help direct the Luminex and Olink proteomics platforms and support scientific collaborations with academic and industry partners. The successful ROM candidate will play a pivotal role in laboratory administration, with a strong focus on efficiency and quality control, training of staff, and daily problem-solving to efficiently co-ordinate research operations and biospecimen management.
